2/3 denied, where do we move from here?

The political tsunami from the 12th General Election has definitely changed the political landscape of our country. However, we can’t be sure whether the votes garnered by the oppositions are votes casted to them or votes casted against the BN.

One could safely assume that majority of the votes to the opposition are due to the dissatisfaction of the BN administration and policies. However, one thing that all of us could not deny is that Malaysians are ready for change.

BN definitely needs to reform and change its own agenda. If BN continues to fight for the Malay agenda which only benefits few of the elites Malay then we could see the downfall of the BN in the next GE. Previously, we have heard proposals from Koh Tsu Koon that all Barisan National component parties merge into one singe party. Though this is an ideal multiracial party, it remains technically unfeasible due to the membership restriction on race by UMNO, MCA and MIC. Not to mention each party have their own agenda to fight for their respective race.

On the other hand, the opposition parties have no such restrictions. We have to admit that though both PKR and DAP are multiracial parties, PKR has a huge number of Malays while DAP is a Chinese based party. Therefore, should both parties are sincere in upholding the justice, freedom and equality to all Malaysians irrespective of race, I strongly recommend that both parties to merge.

This would not only reduce the “race branding” on both parties but will also kill off any chances of Malaysian Politics reverting to the old race based politics. A two-party system also seems likely to evolve from the outcome of this general election. This also means the rakyat’s welfare would be well taken care of, else we reserve the right to overthrow the governing party.
