Fuel protestors risk summons if...

Kota Kinabalu: Motorists participating in the silent fuel price hike protest planned by DAP for today risk being booked if they obstruct traffic.

Acting City Police Chief, DSP Oan Beng Khean said while police will not stop the public from joining the silent protest mooted by Kota Kinabalu MP Dr Hiew King Cheu, nothing must obstruct traffic flow.

"We will definitely issue summonses to people who cause obstructions, or at least we will order them to disperse," he said, Wednesday.

Oan, who is also the city Special Branch chief, said police have been keeping tabs on developments, pointing out DAP had been handing out pamphlets on Tuesday, urging the public to join their Statewide protest.

"They (DAP) are actually planning to have the protest(s) in areas where it will not obstruct traffic, although no specific areas were mentioned.

Anyway we are monitoring the situation," he said.

Hiew recently called on the public to join a statewide mass "silent protest" by emptying streets or stopping and parking their vehicles at the roadside from noon for 15 minutes on June 12 (Thursday).
