Guan Eng wants PKA chief to quit over payment to Kuala Dimensi

KUALA LUMPUR: DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng today asked Port Klang Authority (PKA) chairman Datuk Lee Hwa Beng to resign after his decision to stop payment to Kuala Dimensi Sdn Bhd (KDSB) was overturned.

Lee had on June 30 announced that PKA would not pay the turnkey contractor for Port Klang Free Zone (PKFZ) RM660 million until it had completed a review.

The decision was made soon after Lim challenged Transport Minister Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat to stop payment to KDSB until those responsible for the RM12.5 billion scandal were brought to court.

But two days later PKA was directed by the Treasury to make the payment.

“In less than 72 hours they were forced to make a U-turn,” Lim told a press conference here today.

“No point for Lee Hwa Beng to continue as chairman if his directive is not respected, accepted and adopted,” said Lim.

DAP publicity chief Tony Pua, who was also present at the press conference, questioned why PKA was afraid to stick to its earlier decision to stop the payment.

“The decision for sure was taken with advice of the lawyers,” he said.

The Petaling Jaya Utara MP also criticised the government for its failure to protect public funds.

“They should be defending the people's money, not the interest of the big players,” added Pua.
