KOTA BARU: PAS spiritual leader Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat has urged all Pakatan Rakyat leaders and supporters to boycott the pro-Barisan Nasional mainstream media if the government declines to renew Suara Keadilan and Harakah’s publishing permits.
“I hope Harakah’s and Suara Keadilan permits are renewed. But if these official Pakatan media licenses are not renewed than I suggest an official directive be issued to all Pakatan leaders and supporters to boycott all pro-BN media,” he said in his social network, Facebook page.
Nik Aziz was commenting on the Home Ministry's “no decision yet” stand on Harakah and Suara Keadilan’s application to renew their publishing permits.
The Kelantan menteri besar was of the opinion that the ministry should fine Harakah if the management had flouted any regulations and not reject its application for renewal.
Harakah’s permit expired on July 7.
Two days earlier, the tabloid’s acting chief editor Taufek Yahya was summoned to meet with eight ministry officials in Putrajaya.
On July 8, the ministry issued Harakah a show-cause letter which its managing editor Kamaruddin Jaffar replied.
Kamaruddin later said that Harakah would be published as usual while awaiting its permit’s renewal.
PKR however was not as lucky.
The ministry has warned PKR not to publish Suara Keadilan because “it was not satisfied” with the party’s explanation regarding its report on the Federal Land Development Authority (Felda).
