Pakatan Rakyat leaders warned against Prime Minister Najib Razak's 2011 budget, calling it the "most irresponsible" and "ultra-kiasu" budget they have witnessed in years.
In particular, they took umbrage at the string of mega-projects announced, including the 100-floor Warisan Merdeka building to be developed by PNB at a cost of RM5 billion.
"This is ultra-kiasu funds management by Najib and the BN. RM5 billion can be used to build 12 university campuses. such a sky scraper is counter-productive and doesn't benefit the people. It only enriches the rich and crony contractors," Taiping MP Nga Kor Ming told Malaysia Chronicle.
High risk and huge debt
Kor Ming also took Najib to task for failing to display fiscal responsibility in his budget speech.

"In the 10th Malaysia Plan, the government built 12 Uitm campuses for RM3.6 billion. Judging from the 15 years of continuous budget deficits, the BN is leaving nothing to our future generations but high risk and huge debt."
Other lawmakers were also upset that out of the total allocation of RM214 billion, about three-quarters was for operating expenses and a quarter for development purposes.

Pakatan lawmakers also slammed Najib for increasing the service tax on cars to 6 percent from 5 percent.
"The national car protection policy continues to make Malaysia as the country which has one of the most expensive car pricing structures in the world. The imposition of 60% to 105% excise duty makes it a real burden for Malaysians to own cars. The increase of service tax from 5% to 6% will also post as additional burden to the consumers," said Nga.
