The term 'social contract' has been concocted by Umno/BN that non-Malays have agreed to 'Malay privilege', 'Malay dominance' and ' Malay supremacy' in exchange for their citizenship in this country. This has been used as the basis of continuing the NEP which was formulated by the fed govt under Razak as an administrative policy to give effect to Aricle 153 of the Constitution for a limited time period. As it happens, NEP has been extended times and again and until now some quarters are demanding that it should be a permanent feature as it's enshrined in Aricle 153.
This is a false premise and taken out of context of the Constitution. Article 153 merely gives recognition of the Malays' special position' and the Malay Rulers are entrusted to ensure that 'special position' is protected. As P. Waythamoorthy points out, the Malay Rulers are also obliged to give equal protection to the non-Malays under Article 140. This shows the federation is created to give every citizen equal rights and privileges under the Constitution without the need for an NGO to champion.
The federation was not created of the Malays, by the Malays and for the Malays; it was created for all Malaysians.
