In all civil societies in the world the majority community will bend backwards to accommodate lend voice and speak up for the minority community. But this does not happen in bi-racial One Malay-sia where the politically and economically power Malay and 50% of the economy controlling and with substantial political clout Chinese community and also the Indian elite refuses to speak up even on the critical and pressing Indian problems. Beginning from the estimated 150,000 even up to the six generation Malaysian born Indians being denied even their birth certificates, 90% of Indian children in Tamil schools never attended kindergardens because of poverty, 42% in Standard one in Tamil schools cannot read and write because of poverty and never attended kindergardens Indian children in Sg. Petani eating pebbles because of hunger, skills training denied 2,237 top and achieving SPM students denied University, Matriculation scholarships & PTPTN study loans, civil service and top private & GLC jobs 5,000 scrap metal dealers denied licences hundreds of thousands others denied and business opportunities.
But despite 53 years of independence UMNO is still at it. Racial and religious supremacy the last regime in the world after the apartheid regime in South Africa ended in 1989 (NST headlines 18/10/10).
The whole Malay muslim supremacy citing Article 153 (1) of the federal constitution on Malay special privileges (which Tunku Abdul Rahman and Tun Razak asked only for 15 years to give the poor Malays a leg up. Never did they have the present supremacist would be rehatched over and over again at this UMNO General Assembly. With possible racial attacks against Hindraf for merely raising the second limb of Article 153 (1) which provides for in effect the legitimate interest of the Indians and not to be the aforesaid examples.
It is about time UMNO rose above racial and religious supremacy at this weekend’s UMNO General Assembly and start treating the Indian poor as follow human beings as god wills upon UMNO to start off with. And then grant the Indian poor equality equal rights and equal educational thoughts.
