Re: Protest Note on Hindraf/HRP crackdown/arrests with latest being today’s arrest and “sealing” forum venue.
We refer to the above matter and wish to record our protest at the arrest at 12.30 p.m. today of our Hulu Selangor Division level activist Mr.Gobalakrishnan a/l Manickam (26) one of the contact persons for today’s (21/2/2011) Hulu Selangor Anti UMNO racist and Interlok Forum. He was arrested from his home at Batang Kali by a group of six plain clothes UMNO Indian mandore policemen and their Malay-sian police masters a la licenced gangsters without a valid court Order.
He was never given the grounds for his arrest, the right to telephone his lawyer and is now incommunicado. This police act is in violation of Article 5 of the Federal Constitution which guarantees Liberty of the person and right to Counsel.
Our Vice President Mr.K Tamilselvam made urgent telephone calls to the IPD Hulu Selangor asking for Superintendent Norel Azmi Bin Yahya Affandi Officer In Charge of Police District (OCPD), the Deputy OCPD District CID Chief (KPDJ) and even the Senior Investigating Officer (SIO) but no one wanted to take our Mr.TamilSelvam’s call. Again another UMNO mandore Indian police Corporal Maniam was assigned to tell us that Mr.GobalaKrishnan was arrested for the forum SMS and absolutely no other information given on his welfare, whereabouts grounds for arrests and denied his lawyers’ access a la police state.
The police also went to the house of Kumarasamy a/l Muniandy (26) and is also hunting down another one Muniandy whose telephone numbers appear in our website www.humanrightspartymalaysia.com advertising our aforesaid peaceful forum today held in accordance with Article 10 of the Federal Constitution. (Freedom to assemble peacefully without arms).
We protest this high handed police action on innocent until proven guilty Hindraf /HRP activists and ask for appropriate action to be taken.
We call upon for his immediate release and/or legal access and for the police not to interfere or break up today’s peaceful forum which is scheduled to be held at another venue as the original venue owner has been threatened and “sealed” by the police. .
