Family: That’s not Anwar in the sex clip

Having watched the short clip yesterday, the family is firm that it is not Anwar in the sex video.

KUALA LUMPUR: Anwar Ibrahim’s wife and PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail and daughter Nurul Izzah Anwar, who is party vice-president, today said firmly that the man in the sex video is not Anwar.

This comes after part of the sex video clip exposed by former Malacca Chief Minister Rahim Thamby Chik, Perkasa treasurer Shuib Lazim and businessman Shazryl Eskay Abdullah on March 21 was made available via YouTube on several pro-Umno websites yesterday.

Holding a press conference at their home in Bukit Segambut this morning, Azizah and Nurul said:

“In the case of this new clip, our entire family made the decision to view the said video and concluded that the man who was in it is not Anwar.”

Azizah said that the video was the clearest proof yet that for all those who truly know Anwar, this new accusation was none other than a vile, false and baseless accusation.

“It is clear that the body and physique of the actor in the video is extremely different from the body and physique of Anwar.

“This is strengthened by the fact that for over a year now Anwar has been accompanied by his children whenever he exercises and undergoes physiotherapy as part of recuperative measures for his injured spine,” she added.

She said that it was obvious the spreading of the video was another “example of the gutter politics that was patronized and valorized by Umno-Barisan Nasional”.

“We reject wholeheartedly this form of politics and call on Malaysians to be together with us in upholding justice and in the rejection of such politics.

“Let us together bring back the agenda for holistic reforms in the political, economic and social systems in our beloved nation,” she said.

She added that the accusations came from the greed for power, and a form of politics which has lost its moral compass.

“We hope that all Malaysians will not be trapped by these games of Umno-Barisan Nasional, but instead forge ahead in upholding justice and the truth,” she added.

The short 1.47-minute clip was uploaded into YouTube and found its way into several pro-BN blogs yesterday. However the clip was removed from YouTube late last night for “violation of rules”.

Anwar, who is in Sarawak for the state polls, had denied that he was the person in the video. He had also lodged a police report over the sex video.

The police have since launched an investigation on the matter and todate have said that the video was not doctored. However, they stopped short of identifying the man in the video.

Yesterday the police also said that they will be investigating the uploading of the short clip to the internet.

Omega is with Wan Azizah

During the release of the sex tape, Shazryl insisted that it was Anwar in the tape, adding that he also had Anwar’s Omega watch which he had left behind the room. He also admitted being in the tape.

When Anwar was asked about the watch, he said the watch was with his wife.

When asked today, Wan Azizah admitted of holding the watch but refused to show it to the media.

“Why must I show it to you (reporters),” she said when asked by the media.
