Malaysian politics enter a new era of porn and smut under Najib

It is crazy season in Malaysia.

From the sex video created by Umno to topple Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim right down to the MACC officer caught watching smut in office, Malaysian news now only have one major point to highlight: sex and pornography.

Is Malaysia going down as a nation which practices gutter politics with the emphasis on sex and porn?

It seems that the BN Government is permitting the porn culture to flourish in Malaysia. It has to be noted that the son of the previous MACC chief was also caught in Australia (in Sydney International Airport) for possession of pornographic material but the previous MACC chief brushed it off as nothing saying that it was a normal thing to be in possession of such porn material!

Never more has Malaysia been so caught up in sex and porn until right now, during the tenure of the Najib administration. The citizenry are complaining and it is indeed a disgusting turn of events. Foreign investors and expatriates living here must have a very bad impression of Malaysia.

According to PSM MP for Sungei Siput, Michael Jeyakumar, Malaysian politics has now deteriorated to such an extent that it has become worse than gutter politics.

"This is because if the leaders of the country thrive on this sort of cheap thrills, then sex and porn will continue to be the main topics of Malaysian politics," Michael told Malaysia Chronicle.

"There is no integrity, noble values and good moral ethics in Malaysian politics coming from the BN side for a long time now."

Najib administration an Era of Porn

Michael also remarked that so far the investigation into the sex video has been slow and independent foreign experts should have been the ones called in to analyse whether the video was doctored or not. And most importantly, if the man filmed having sex with a prostitute was Anwar.

Despite all the talk of Government Transformation Programme (GTP) and National Key Results Areas (NKRAs), the Najib era will go down in history as the 'Porn Era'.

The ideals of a good and clean democracy have sunk to the bottom of the ocean together with the Port Klang Free Zone (PKFZ) scandal and Malaysia can now be lumped together with Third World oppressive regimes while Najib continues to create grandeur illusions using 1Malaysia as a smokescreen to mask the BN's lack of a reform agenda.

Recently, it was revealed in a Royal Commission of Inquiry that an MACC officer had watched pornography after interogating the late Teoh Beng Hock. Pakatan Rakyat leaders say this gives an idea to the rakyat or populace how the MACC operates. They also question if watching porn has become rampant under the Najib administration.

Malaysia Chronicle also spoke to Nik Nazmi, PKR assemblyman for Seri Setia for his opinion on whether the country is fixated on porn-politics.

"Malaysian politics has now gone down to sewer level. If PM Najib has got any backbone, he should put a stop to all this charade that is going on in relation to the forged sex video," said Nik Nazmi.

No socio-economic debates, just smut-and-smear

As it is, Malaysian politics is so caught up on the sex video case that Sarawak Chief Minister Taib Mahmud's misdeeds have been blanked out, which is the intention of the BN Government as the Sarawak polls will be held on 16th April.

Nik Nazmi reminded Malaysia Chronicle that when Anwar requested Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak to debate on the Pakatan's Buku Jingga (Orange Book), Najib refused saying that there was no need for such a debate. The Buku Jingga is the opposition's social and economic reforms blueprint.

But BN leaders scoffed at their Pakatan counterparts. They also commented that they do not have time for such trivialities. But it seems that they have time for porn, said Nik Nazmi.

"With the latest string of events, Malaysia is no longer credible on the world stage. Instead of having fine, polished debates with Pakatan Rakyat elected representatives before the general election, BN politicians are busy with porn," remarked Nik Nazmi.

"It is high time that all right-thinking Malaysians open their eyes and see properly for themselves what the BN Government is up to and the direction which Malaysia is heading," urged PSM's Michael. - Malaysia Chronicle
