Former Perak MB Mohd Nizar Jamaluddin makes an impassioned plea to the community to once again support Pakatan Rakyat in the GE

IPOH: Former Perak Menteri Besar Mohd Nizar Jamaluddin made an impassioned appeal to the Indian community to once again support Pakatan Rakyat (PR) in the next general election.

“Please give us another chance to change (the social and economic status of) the Indian community by voting in Pakatan Rakyat to form the (state) government,” said Nizar.

“I know that not much was done (for the Indian community) during our 11 months rule of the state,” he added.

He said the Pakatan coalition has learned from its shortcomings during its 11 months of rule of the state and is now in a better position to address the grievances of the community.

Eleven months was too short a time to make the necessary reforms compared to the 53 years of BN rule when little was done to uplift the economic and social status of the Indian society, he added.

Nizar was the main guest speaker at the Perak PR Indian Convention organised by Pakatan Rakyat and attended by about 500 people at the Heritage Hotel here on Sunday.

Teach MIC a lesson

The other guests were DAP Perak chief Ngeh Koo Ham, his deputy V Sivakumar, Teluk Intan MP M Manogaran, Klang MP Charles Santiago, PKR deputy secretary general T Kumar, PKR Tapah division vice chief M Mathialagan and PAS supporters club national deputy chief N Balasubramaniam.

“The Indian community was a marginalised and frustrated lot under the MIC despite them supporting it for over 50 year. They did not get anything in return,” said Nizar.

“We are making Indian issues the top priority for the next general election. They (Indians) do not want to be taken for a ride by MIC again.

“Teach MIC a lesson for allowing Umno to ridicule you through Interlok which is not fit for any school syllabus let alone Form Five students,” said an angry Nizar.

He said MIC and MCA are Umno minions, whereas the coalition partners of Pakatan consisting of DAP, PAS and PKR shared equal power in voicing out the concerns of the people.

“So please give us the mandate to rule the state once more as we have the blueprint or manifesto in the Buku Jingga (Orange Book) to benefit all Perakians,” he said.
