Zuraida warns "desperado" Najib: Don't go crazy to win back S'gor

MP for Ampang Zuraida Kamaruddin accused Prime Minister Najib Razak of being a "desperado", crazed about regaining power in Selangor which the BN lost to the Pakatan Rakyat in 2008.

“Do not challenge us. Do not be a traitor to the people of Selangor. From his statement, it proves that Najib has become a desperado, going crazy over his intention to rule Selangor,” Zuraida, who is also the PKR women's chief, said in a statement out on Friday

She was referring to Najib's comments made the day before to Selangor Umno leaders that they sgould use "whatever weapon was at their disposal" to topple Mentri Besar Khalid Ibrahim's Pakatan government.

She challenged the 57-year old Najib to state his stand clearly and transparently before the Malaysian people through an open debate with Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim, rather than resort to foul means to stay in power.

“The debate can be held in my parliamentary constituency of Ampang and I will host it,” said Zuraida.

Worse than Perak

Najib had also said elections were "just around the corner".

“Again, I remind Najib, do not challenge us. We are ready to face the 13th general election at any time. We have prepared our election machinery and strengthened our line of defence to shield Selangor from the tyranny and oppression of Umno, in every possible way,” Zuraida said.

“It clearly shows that he will play dirty to grab Selangor. I am confident he will use even worse tactics than what was used in Perak.”

Najib had master-minded the power grab in northern Perak state in 2009, where he lured 2 PKR and 1 DAP assemblymen over to the BN side.

Pakatan's control over the state seats in Selangor is much stronger than it was in Perak where only a handful of seats separated them and BN from forming the state government.

Nvertheless, flushed from the Perak success, Selangor Umno had allegedly orchestrated a string of cheating and embezzlement charges against nearly a dozen Pakatan state councilors. Their mass convictions could have disqualified them from office and pave the way for Umno to regain the upperhand in the state government.

However, the tragic death of Selangor aide Teoh Beng Hock forced the plan to be scrapped as anti-graft agency MACC came under intense scrutiny after his body was found at their building following overnight interrogation.

Pakatan leaders have accused Selangor Umno of hatching the conspiracy with the MACC. Najib, who is Umno president, is also the Selangor Umno chief.
