PKR lodges police report against PM, DPM, 23 reps for disrespect against King

KUALA TERENGGANU, Mon: Parti Keadilan Rakyat today lodged a police report against Umno's top leaders and 23 Terengganu assemblymen for what it regards as showing disrespect to the Terengganu palace over the appointment of the Mentri Besar.

Twelve PKR members led by party national youth deputy head Faris Musa lodged the report at the Kuala Terengganu district police contingent headquarters here at 4.30pm.

Faris later told reporters that the police report was made against Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, his deputy Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and the 23 assemblymen who objected to the appointment of Kijal assemblyman Datuk Ahmad Said as Menteri Besar by the Terengganu Sultan.

"The decision had been made. What they (Umno leaders) should do was to accept and abide by that decision," he said referring to Ahmad's appointment as Terengganu's new Menteri Besar.

Faris also urged Tuanku Mizan to act against the Prime Minister, Deputy Prime Minister and 23 Terengganu assemblymen for disloyalty to the institution.

The 23 state assemblymen, especially, have gone overboard in showing disrespect by going against the Royal Regency Advisory Council's decision in the appointment of Ahmad as Menteri Besar, he said.

"The palace institution must be respected and all subjects must show loyalty," he said. "The actions of those involved were a blatant disregard of loyalty to the Rulers."

Faris said the decision to lodge the report was made after analysing newspaper reports published in Berita Harian and Utusan Malaysia.

Terengganu PKR liaison secretary Razali Alias said all concerned parties must handle the crisis carefully and with decorum, especially in maintaining cordial relations with the Palace, a matter that was sensitive to the Malays. "Even if they disagree, a more polite approach should have been used in resolving the issue," he said. - NST
