Hindus call for abolition of Internal Security Act in Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR: A group of Hindu Rights Action Force (Hindraf) supporters reportedly handed over a letter writing in a child-like handwriting on Friday to the country's highest ranking office, calling for the abolishment of the Internal Security Act (ISA) and the release of its five members detained under the Act.

The letter was written by Hindraf chairman P. Waythamoorthy's five-year-old daughter Vwaishhnnari, reported the staronline. P. Waythamoorthy is currently in London in self-imposed exile. The three-page letter requested the Yang di-Pertuan Agong to urge the Prime Minister to abolish the "draconian ISA."

Established in 1957, the Yang di-Pertuan Agong is the highest ranking office created by the constitution of the federation of Malaysia. "It is my humble request that you urge the Prime Minister to abolish the draconian ISA in your opening Royal Address in Parliament on April 29th and advise the Prime Minister to treat all Malaysians, especially the minority communities, equally. Thank you Your Highness and I would eagerly wait for your speech before the TV," the letter said.

The girl later presented the letter to the palace, where it was received by the senior private secretary of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
