MALAYSIA: Why entire Parliament sessions can't go live on TV & Radio?

It is time for the rules and regulations of Parliament to be changed in Malaysia, especially relating to media coverage.

Malaysian citizens would like to see live television and radio coverage of the Parliament session. To date, information minister allowed providing live TV coverage of Parliament for 30 minutes. How about full coverage’s in TV and radios as well?

Full live coverage of the proceedings could improve the decorum of parliamentarians.

We have seen it in most of the countries and it worked well. I think people have an opportunity to see the parliament’s decorum, the manner in which they debate and everything, in 30 minutes, what can you recap from the whole day session.

Given the importance of broadcast and other electronic access to the proceedings of Parliament both in Parliament and State Assembly, the government should provide an uninterrupted feed or access for broadcasters to broadcast the whole session and not just part of it.

Parliaments should be encouraged to provide live coverage of their proceedings on a dedicated channel and/or online.

This issue is a very lively issue as Malaysians are denied the basic right to see and evaluate their own MP’s while articulating issues of public importance.
What we all want is a first world class Parliament and a First world class mentality among members of Parliament. Almost all Parliaments in the world have live coverage but not in Malaysia? Why is this so?
