Dr Mahathir behind the plight of Indians in Malaysia, says Hindraf leader

Kuala Lumpur: Hindraf (Hindu Rights Action Force) national coordinator in Malaysia R. Thanenthiran has reportedly said that the country's former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad was responsible for the plight of Indians (in Malaysia).

"He destroyed the future of the Indian community by failing to look into their welfare," said Thanenthiran.

Speaking to reporters after attending a Makkal Sakthi dinner in Teluk Intan, he said Hindraf would not have been formed if equal opportunities had been given.

According to another report published in Malaysia Nanban, Malaysia Hindu Sangam Penang Branch deputy president P. Murugiah called upon the Government to introduce a ration card system for the poor to buy essential food items at lower prices.

He said the state governments could request the poor and deserving people to be issued with a card that can be used to purchase essential goods at a ration shop set up by the state government.
