KUALA LUMPUR, July 22 — Two army colonels, who are among three named in Raja Petra Kamarudin's statutory declaration implicating them in the murder of Altantuya Shaariibuu, filed a suit against the Malaysia Today editor today.
Lt-Kol Abdul Aziz Buyong and Lt-Kol Norhayati Hassan, both husband and wife, filed the defamation suit at the Kuala Lumpur High Court. They are seeking an injunction to restrain Raja Petra — popularly known as RPK — from repeating his declaration as well as RM1 million each.
The third person named in Raja Petra's sworn statement, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, wife of Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, has said she will not sue the blogger. However, she has denied his allegations and has given a statement to the police.
Raja Petra was charged last week with three counts of criminal defamation but refused to enter a plea, saying the charges are defective and mala fide. He also faces a sedition charge linked to the case and is now out on police bail.
In his statutory declaration dated June 18, 2008, RPK claimed to have knowledge that Rosmah and the two military officers were present when the Mongolian model was blown up on Oct 19, 2006. Political analyst Abdul Razak Baginda and two policemen from an elite escort squad are facing trial for the murder.
