Rosmah will not sue Raja Petra
KUALA LUMPUR: Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor will not sue Malaysia-Today blogger Raja Petra Kamaruddin for alleging she was present with two others at the Altantuya Shaariibuu murder scene when the Mongolian woman was blown up.
"I do not want to address unnecessary issues. I’ve got many other things to attend to, bigger things to attend to for the people and for the nation," said Rosmah, deputy prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak's wife, when asked by reporters if she was going to sue Raja Petra.
"It does not matter. If you are innocent, what is there for you to address all these? I’m not a politician. I’m not running for any post. I’m just a wife of a politician," she told reporters after launching the Asia-Pacific Conference on Children’s Book Publishing at Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC) today.
Raja Petra had in a statutory declaration made at the Kuala Lumpur High Court on June 18 alleged that Rosmah had been among three people at the murder scene and had witnessed the placing of C4 explosives on Altantuya's body.
He who said Raja Petra's move was politically motivated, welcomed a police investigation into the allegation that Rosmah, an acting whom Kolonel Aziz Buyong (a C4 explosion expert) and the colonel's wife Norhayati (one of Rosmah's ADC) were present at the murder scene between 10pm Oct 19, 2006, till the early hours of the following day and that police had recorded a statement from Rosmah.
Meanwhile, Rosmah clarified today that Norhayati was not her ADC.
"She was just an officer who did all my programmes, that's it," she said, adding that Norhayati no longer worked with her and had been promoted at the Defence Ministry.
"I have given all my statements to the police and that’s it," said Rosmah who declined further comment.
In denying the allegation on June 25, Najib described the statutory declaration as a "total lie", calling it "fabricated garbage".
It was reported on Sunday that Aziz and Norhayati, now understood to be lieutenant-colonels, have filed a defamation suit against Raja Petra.
They are seeking RM1 million in damages, an apology to be published on Raja Petra's website and in all the national newspapers, and the removal of the statutory declaration from all web portals.
Raja Petra has until this Saturday to reply. According to website www.rockybru.blogspot.com, the money will be donated to a charitable foundation.
