KUALA LUMPUR, July 4 (Bernama) -- Umno Youth plans to hold a large gathering to protest against the interference of the United States and other foreign powers in the country's domestic affairs, Umno Youth chief Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein said Thursday.
The gathering would also protest against attempts by Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) advisor Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to garner the sympathy of foreign countries to allegedly divert attention away from an investigation on him, he said in a statement.
He also said that Umno Youth protested the statement by US State Department spokesman Tom Casey who had said that the United States would oppose any politically motivated investigation or prosecution of Anwar.
Hishammuddin said the intervention of others -- such as Turkey at whose ambassador's residence Anwar had sought refuge and the Singapore newspaper which had insulted Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, wife of the deputy prime minister -- were unhealthy developments of foreign interference in Malaysia's internal affairs.
"Umno Youth sees these developments as being linked to Anwar and feels that stern action should be taken to express our warning and protest against a third party not to ever interfere in our internal affairs," he said.
