LDP: What's the outcome?

Kota Kinabalu: Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) Youth has urged the police to make public the result of their investigations against Datuk Ahmad Ismail in relation to his alleged racist remarks.

Its Youth Chief, Chin Shu Ying said the disciplinary action taken by the Umno Supreme Council clearly indicated that he has committed a very serious wrong.

"The fact that he has been suspended for three years should not stop the due process of the law, otherwise our government may seem as practicing double standards," he said in a statement here Friday.

According to him, LDP Youth strongly objected to the arrest of journalist, Tan Hoon Cheng, MP Teresa Kok and blogger Raja Petra Kamarudin under the ISA.

Although, Tan has been freed, he said the detention under the draconian law was generally perceived by the people as a move to silence dissent and it may further erode support for the Barisan Nasional (BN) government.

"We concur with Datuk Zaid Ibrahim that the ISA should only be used against terrorists and in times of emergency.

The ISA should never be used for any other purpose, as there are sufficient laws in our country to deal with those whose actions or words disturb the peace and harmony that we are enjoying. "We salute Zaid for his firm stand and the courage to resign from the Cabinet," he said.
