KUALA LUMPUR: The DAP has urged Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi to use the last five months of his premiership to honour all “unfulfilled pledges for reform.”
DAP adviser Lim Kit Siang said in a press statement that Abdullah should still leave a legacy of change and make an honourable exit as the nation’s fifth prime minister.
“It will be Abdullah’s tryst with destiny. It can still be done, if Abdullah is prepared to ‘do the impossible’ and use his last five months as Prime Minister to honour all the unfulfilled pledges and promises of the past five years,” said Lim.
Former Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Khir Toyo said that with the earlier transition of power “new hope is created.”
“The grassroots ceases to be restless and this will make it difficult for opportunists to try wrest power,” he said, referring to Opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s claims that he had enough Barisan MPs to cross over to form the government.
“But the public has become an impatient lot. (Datuk Seri) Najib (Tun Razak) must deliver results within six months to a year, especially on how to steer the country out of the bad economic times – failing which, the public will become ‘hungry’ again, and the restlessness will start all over,” Dr Khir said.
