Beaufort: Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) called on the people to bring back Sabah its political autonomy once enjoyed before. Sabah was once the richest state in Malaysia.
Sapp president, Datuk Seri Yong Teck Lee, with some senior party leaders was on a Sapp roadmap campaign stopover here in Beaufort. Yong said that ever since political autonomy was taken away by the federal leaders, Sabah slowly become the poorest state in Malaysia, which as a result of takeover of various state powers, socio-economic imbalances and neglect.
Yong added that even the chief minister of Sabah is picked and approved by the Prime Minister and BN-Umno Kuala Lumpur instead of the rakyat of Sabah. For one who wants to get posts and ministership, would have to go to Putrajaya to lobby for it. Thus, the ones who are good at lobbying get the job. This is the BN-Umno style of good governance.
"Sabah has the highest unemployment rate in Malaysia. As a result, most of our youths are forced to seek jobs in other states and even overseas.
On the party's political future, Yong said that Sapp will contest seats which the party feels that it can win while supporting other parties in areas where Sapp are not contesting to ensure their victory.
During the seminar, new members, Encik Edeh Abdul Rahman, ex-Liaison Officer to Datuk Lajim Hj Ukin, Encik Anis Tuali, ex-Umno member submitted their membership application forms to the president, attended by 100 odd party members. The chairman for Sapp South Zone is Datuk Rashid Hj Gador.
