The United Malays National Organisation, or UMNO, (Malay: Pertubuhan Kebangsaan Melayu Bersatu), is a right-wing party and Malaysia's largest political party; a founding member of the Barisan Nasional coalition, which has been Malaysia's ruling political party since independence.
It is known for being a major proponent of Malay nationalism, secularism and capitalism, which holds that the Malay are the "definitive" people of Malaysia and, thus, deserve special privileges as their birthright than any other race in Malaysia.
UMNO sees itself as Malay nationalist and conservative representing the Malays of Malaysia, although any Bumiputra (indigenous Malaysian, a category which includes people such as the non-Malay and usually non-Muslim Kadazan, Iban, Dayak, etc. of East Malaysia) may join the party. UMNO is generally regarded as the "protector and champion of ketuanan Melayu" (Malay supremacy).

The party's advocacy of the primacy of the rights of the Malays is sometimes viewed by non-Malays as coming at the expense of non-Malay rights. This sentiment was bolstered by the actions of the members of the party's youth wing, some of which heightened the sense of tension between the Malays and other races.
When the party consists of non muslim, how UMNO can be regarded as Malay Protector or Ketuanan Melayu, it must be ketuanan rakayat since non Malays have been included in the party.
The usual caption ny UMNO is saving the Malays from enemies?
Who are they? Chinese, Indians, Ibans, Kadazans etc? And what about Hadi Awang, Husam Musa, Anwar Ibrahim, Azizah Ismail, Nik Aziz and so who are against UMNO to the grave. Are they enemies also?
And did UMNO sign a heavenly decree to represent Malays on behalf of God? Are the Malays a bunch of hapless, marauding sheep that need to the constant watch of a herdsman of decent people who live in a country called Malaysia and a people who can decide their destiny?
Just take a closer look at how UMNO are trying to achieve their agenda. Shouting slogans that are embarassingly racial, holding banners with sensitive outcry.
