DAP: Probe Dr M’s mega wastage

KUALA LUMPUR: DAP leader Lim Kit Siang is asking Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak to set up a Royal Commission of Inquiry to determine if Dr Mahathir Mohamad (picture) wasted RM100 billion on mega projects during his 22-year rule, as reported in a book.

Lim said in a statement today that the inquiry would show that Najib was committed to combating corruption in his government transformation programme.

”Will any cabinet minister dare step forward to support such a royal commission?" he said when commenting on the publication of Malaysian Maverick: Mahathir Mohamad in Turbulent Times by former Asian Wall Street Journal managing editor Barry Wain.

Lim wonders if Mahathir would cooperate with such a commission and prove that the allegations against him were wrong.

Speculating that both Najib and Mahathir would by now have read the book, Lim asked why the authorities were holding up the distribution of about 800 copies of the book for more than three weeks now.

"Is either of them objecting to the release of the book and want it banned like Mahathir’s Malay Dilemma when it was first published in 1970? This would be the irony of ironies," he added.

He asked Mahathir to make his stand on whether the book should be released to the Malaysian public without any obstacles from the authorities.
