MP to Federal Govt: Withdraw appeal against ‘Allah’ ruling

SHAH ALAM: The Federal Government should withdraw its appeal against the Dec 31 Kuala Lumpur High Court ruling if it is genuinely committed to resolving issues with the Catholic community in the country, said Kulim Bandar Baharu MP Zulkifli Nordin.

“We urge the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Herald to withdraw the case from court. The court is not the best place to resolve the crisis. We must have a closed dialogue immediately, “ he said echoing former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s views that such sensitive matters cannot be dealt with by the courts.

Zulkifli said the current uneasy calm did not mean that parties were pulling back. He said the situation demanded the urgent attention of the Council of Rulers.

“We urge the Council of Rulers to step in and hold a special conference soon to solve the issue of the use of the word “Allah” by non-Muslims,” he was reported as saying.
