Pusrawi doctor modified Saiful’s medical report, claims prosecution

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 23 — Prosecution lawyers in Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s sodomy trial have accused a medical officer of modifying details of complainant Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan’s medical examination report on June 28, 2008.

Solicitor-General II Datuk Mohd Yusof Zainal Abiden wasted no time today in attacking the credibility of former Pusrawi hospital doctor Dr Muhd Osman Abd Hamid — who was the first to medically examine Saiful on the day he lodged a police report against Anwar.

Osman told the court that Saiful had complained of pain in his anus and not being able to defecate for a week before the examination. The doctor said that he found Saiful’s anus to be “normal and healthy” after the examination.

Osman then said that Saiful had alleged assault by introduction of plastic into anus, something which Yusof immediately objected to.

When pressed further, the former Pusrawi medical officer then said that Saiful told him after the examination that he “was sodomised and a plastic was inserted.”

At this point, Yusof stated that the “insertion of plastic” was not stated in Osman’s original medical report, and was only added when a further statement was recorded by the police last year.

The lead prosecutor called Osman a “very gullible man”, and stated that the doctor had even agreed to sign a Statutory Declaration (SD) upon requests from lawyers he did not personally know.

Osman agreed to this, and said that at the time he was “very scared.”

“You are a very gullible man, you believe everything everyone says. You would do anything for anybody, that’s why I’m saying the notion of plastic inserted into anus was added later. Saiful denied saying this.

“I put it to you that he did not say any plastic,” said Yusof.

But Osman insisted Saiful told him otherwise.

Anwar is charged with sodomising former aide Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan at a condominium in Bukit Damansara here between 3.10pm and 4.30pm on June 26.

He faces up to 20 years in jail if convicted under section 377B of the Penal Code, but will escape the whipping sentence due to his age.
