Indians ‘kingmakers’ in 130 state seats

B Nantha Kumar | September 28, 2011

A PKR survey revealed that urban and semi-urban Indians are still partial to the Pakatan Rakyat coalition

PETALING JAYA: A PKR leader is of the opinion that the Indian community is still very much aligned to Pakatan Rakyat and will be the kingmakers in 130 state assembly seats.

Malacca vice-president G Rajendran said that a recent survey by an independent team indicated that 60 percent of Malaysian Indians, who were mostly from the urban and semi-urban areas, were fed up with the Barisan Nasional (BN) administration.

He claimed that the team, which included him, had visited 62 parliamentary constituencies where the respective Indian communities had played a major role in deciding the winning candidates in the historic 2008 general election.

“We’ve been doing the survey for the last six months. The feedback is favouring Pakatan,” he told FMT.

According to him, Indians will play a pivotal role in the coming general election.

“The survey revealed that the outcome of 130 state assembly seats in Kedah, Perak, Selangor, Negri Sembilan, Penang, Johor, will be determined by Indian votes,” he said. (A parliamentary constituency has three to four state assembly seats.)

Rajendran said currently the BN leaders are playing a “psychological war” with the Indian community.

They are pitting the Indian community against Pakatan leaders by saying the community is unlikely support the opposition party.

“These are utter lies… the Indian voters still have faith in Pakatan.

“Pakatan has excellent state governments in Kedah, Kelantan, Penang and Selangor respectively,” he added.

Fewer people in estates

Rajendran pointed out that only 15% of the Indians are now living in estates and rural areas, based on the survey.

“This is the group that MIC is focusing on. They (MIC) are hoping that by sorting out this group’s simple needs it is enough to win at the ballot box,” he said, adding that this group was still true loyalist to BN.

Rajendran, however, believes that despite MIC’s forays, the rural Indians are unlikely to turn against Pakatan in the 13th general election, even though the community is facing numerous problems to vote.

“Many of the voters have no transport to go to the voting centres.

“Some do not have identity cards and others are too complacent or are not interested to vote,” he said.

He added that that there should not be a comparison between a by-election and a general election, where in the former, the BN can give its full attention to the rural areas where Indian reside.

He also said the BN would also have trouble convincing the 20% Indians who lived in urban areas to vote for the ruling regime.

“BN cannot ‘touch’ them (urban Indian) at any cost.

“Thus, the remaining 65% of the Indians who live in the semi-urban are now seen as the real threat to both sides,” he said.

‘MIC doomed’

Rajendran is confident that 55% of the semi-urban Indians will support Pakatan in the upcoming election.

He said MIC was doomed and was unlikely to offer BN many voters.

He added that accusations hurled at PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim and the government’s refusal to ban the “Interlok” novel, along with the discrimination in social and education developments, are several factors that would work against the MIC.

He described Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak’s recent announcement to help needy Indians as mere “instant noodles”, adding that BN can no longer fool the community.

On Monday, Najib launched an education charity fund called “Community Chest” and pledged to channel a minimum of RM100 million annually from next year to help needy Chinese and Tamil mission schools.

Rajendran said that “Najib only officiated at the programme and he cannot claim credit for it. The charity is a brainchild of Malaysian business tycoons.

“The BN has hijacked the charity from those tycoons to gain votes from non-Muslim,” he added.

Who are these Bumiputras now and in the future?

In recent development eventually with the enforcement of unfair policy, foreigners such as Indonesian, Bangladeshi's, Arab's, Pakistani's, Africans etc Muslims will be bumiputera in few years and enjoy all the benefits of bumiputeras but for Chinese & Indians, who fought for Independence generations after generations we will still be labeled as immigrants. Thanks to UMNO's Apartheid Policy.

We are all immigrants squatting in this country. Only the Negrito, Jekun, Semang, Jahut, Orang Laut, Orang Darat, Senoi, and other indigenous people groups (like the Kadazandusuns, ibans and bidayuhs) can be correctly considered the original inhabitants of this country.

What a Melayu really is. It is time we stopped those who corrupt the original meaning in order to use it to divide Malaysian.

The real reason why Indian Muslim considers themselves a Melayu

Mahathir should know this since he registered himself as an Indian in Singapore where he studied medicine. Inside him, he knows the real reason why he now considers himself a Malay and refuses to acknowledge his Indian roots. There are opportunists everywhere and UMNO has become the platform for them to satisfy their greed. It will also be the platform on which they destroy themselves.

No thanks to Chinese

The Deputy PM expressed disappointment with the Chinese for not voting UMNO but when you look back at recent history, did he thank the Chinese for their role in getting independence for Malaya? The Chinese, Indians and Malays were supposed to be equal partners as a condition for obtaining Merdeka. Then, the Malays asked for 25 years of “Special Privileges” so that they could catch up with the other races.

Unquestionable “Malay Right” for perpetuity

Along the way, they changed the Constitution and it is now an unquestionable “Malay Right” for perpetuity. Look at your genuine history books (not the ones they distorted) to see if I am telling the truth. Or go to the newspaper archives in the Straits Times and in London to get to the truth.

Who are these bumiputras?

Because of this, the UMNOputras own the banks, the plantations, petroleum. The Malays are encouraged to start and own their businesses entirely on their own (100%). The non-Malays start their own businesses but when they get big, 30% must be given to bumiputras. Who are these bumiputras? They are selected UMNOputras ( not ordinary Malays) - those who use politics to get what is not rightfully theirs.

They use the law to rob others of their wealth. Yet, they will not give a single share to the ordinary Malays in the streets – it is all theirs to keep. They will not do what they ask the non-Malays to do – sharing their wealth.

Not only that, they rob the ordinary Malays daily with the Water Concessions, the Tolls, etc.

Melayu By a Malay-
Syed Imran

You may have already read this article published more than a year ago, below this is another article written by a “Malay” who I salute, that reinforces what I have said.

I’d like to challenge your article on the origins of the word Melayu.

(I hope you will not be emotional about this article and create an issue about it, but rather treat this as an intellectual argument between two matured individuals. I have presented facts here for you to review, and if you disagree please substantiate it. Since you have come out with a blog to attempt to tell us the origins of the word Melayu, and as a Malay, if you are really and truly keen in your own heritage and roots, I am writing to you with the facts of the origins of the word Melayu, in fact there are many scholars of yesteryear’s, Malays, who will tell you that the only original words in the Malay language are “Tanah” and “Melayu”)

Melayu is derived from the Javanese word Melayu, there are many other words in the Malay vocabulary that actually come from the various Asian languages mostly those of Sanskrit Origin.

The Sanskrit in Malay is derived from the Indian influence of the Majapahit, Srivijaya and other Indian influences in South East Asia. This particular word in Bahasa Malaysia is derived from the word Melayu from Javanese. Javanese was the lingua franca of the people in the region having had its own script, which was actually taken from the Arabic script, the bugis and the rest have dialects close to Javanese.

The Malay language in its romanised context only evolved in the early part of the 20th century.

In Javanese the word Melayu means running away, or a runaway, that is why if you go to Java and ask a Javanese if he is Melayu he will feel very insulted.
The word Melayu found on the statue as claimed in your URL; http://www.sabrizain.org/malaya/malays4.htm thus denotes that this person was a Melayu, a “Runaway.”

These people, the runaways whether in Sumatra or in the Malay Peninsula referred to themselves as orang Melayu, it is therefore no coincidence that the word orang is placed before Melayu, people who ran away so to speak.

In the Malay Peninsular, it was gradually accepted as the word to describe the Javanese, the Bugis, the Menang, the Achinese etc. and even the Kelantanese who are actually Yunanese and have their origins in China, because they recognized the fact that at the end of the day they were all Melayu, or Run Aways from their respective homelands the word was accepted by all these communities to describe themselves.

In fact, before the formation of the United Malays National Organisation (UMNO), it is a fact that all the people in the country had referred to themselves as Menang, Achinese, Bugis, Javanese etc. etc. and we all know that the Kelantanese used to treat the other Melayu, that is the Menang, Javanese, the Bugis etc. as foreigners.

Well for that matter, even Mahathir Mohammed was registered as Indian in King Edwards College where he studied medicine.

The Malay therefore very much like the Indians, and later the Chinese are Melayu in the very true sense of the word because they all left their respective countries to come to this location in South East Asia called Malaysia today.

The real natives of the country are the Orang Laut, the Jakun, the Kadazaan, the Iban, the Senoi and the rest, and not the so called Orang Melayu, because these people are actually Javanese, Achinese, Bugis, people from the Mollucas islands, and other parts of neighbouring Indonesia, including those from Cambodia and even China (Yunanese). That explains the word Melayu in various parts of Sumatra too.

The Javanese people in particular were referred to as Java Kontra a term they despised and today in Sumatra they are referred to as Orang Transmigrasi which is more acceptable to the Javanese in Indonesia then the term Melayu.

For Malay citizenship and for permanent residence reasons, the Orang Java, be they Sundanese, Orang Java Barat, Orang Java Tengah or Orang Java Timor, or any other Indonesian for that matter recognises the fact that the day he becomes a Malaysian citizen, he is now an Orang Melayu that is a new word coined by Malaysians of these origins to legitimise their Bumiputraism.

And to become Bumiputra this way, that is by becoming a Melayu, he has to profess the Islamic faith. This privilege is not extended to Dayaks, from Kalimantan, or Christian Filipinos, or for that matter Christians from among the peoples of Sumatra, Java or any other Indonesian Islands.

The irony of all this is the fact that if you look at the real Orang Asli of Malaysia as a whole you’ll find out that the majority of them are not from the Islamic faith, and that is one of the reasons why in Sabah the registration department of the Federal Government legitimised and gave citizenship and permanent residence status to hundreds and thousands of illegal Fillipina immigrants from the Southern part of the Philippines.

I therefore disagree with your attempt to legitimize the term Orang Melayu as a race, it is not and never will be. The so-called Melayu must own up to their own heritage the way the Chinese and Indians in Malaysia proudly do.

And if we are to use this word called Melayu, it should be a term used to refer to all Malaysians except the ethnic Malaysians who are orang Asli.

The term Bumiputera was coined and the Malay placed in that category to legitimize the fact that he is ethnic when he is not.

It is a shame, and in fact a disgrace that they are the only group of people who by this very act, show the world that they are ashamed of their own heritage.

And who else can be so? Only those who run away or are banished from their own lands, for it is only such people who are ashamed of their own heritage.

Even the customs, the traditions, the dressings, the architecture etc. point to the fact that the so called Orang Melayu of Peninsular Malaysia are actually not one and the same people.

Some time ago I wrote about the Melayu and the origins of the name Melayu, which means runaway.
Today another “Melayu has written” totally unconnected this man, yes he is a man he stands up for the truth has written a similar article.
I am sending both these articles to you for your reading and circulation

All immigrants

Syed Imran, an Arab-Malaysian born in Penang, Malaysia, an ex-Bernama journalist (1971-1998) and former press secretary to the Minister in PM’s Department, posted a great blog days ago, which was translated into English.

Please circulate it and let all Malaysians understand the facts.

*Antara pendatang dan penumpang (English Translation) *

To begin with, I was quite reluctant to comment on the mess created by the statement made by Ahmad bin Ismail, the head of the Bukit Bendera, Pulau Pinang UMNO Division.. Whether he made the statement in reference to Chinese Malaysians is no longer the question, as the issue has spread and has been hotly debated.

If it is not handled carefully and smartly, this issue could make clear water murky, giving opportunity to parties who are keen on seeing this country crash, not to mention falling into the hands of foreigners. In today’s borderless world, international electronic media coverage makes it difficult for any country to hide or deny any given event.

The main issue brought up by Ahmad Ismail revolves around the question of “squatters”, that is, that Chinese Malaysians are squatters in this country. He explained that he was referring to pre-independence days. However, it had hurt the sensitivity of the Chinese Malaysian community.

I don’t know Ahmad Ismail personally, but I was quite close to his late elder brother, Abdul Rahim Ismail, the owner of Rahim Construction Company that was once famous as an “Earth-Prince” (Bumiputra) construction firm in Pulau Pinang. I don’t know what has happened to the company after Abdul Rahim passed away.

Personally, I don’t agree with what Ahmad Ismail said for the following reasons.

To me, nearly 90 percent of Malaysians, especially those in the Peninsula, are immigrants, and all of us are actually squatters in the land of Allah anyways. We are anything but permanent owners, we are merely squatters.

For example, I come from a family that squatted in this blessed land. My paternal grandfather and grandmother migrated from Mecca and Brunei, while my maternal grandmother came from Hadramut, Yaman. We are immigrants and squatters, as are almost everyone else in this country.

As for Ahmad Ismail, he is also an immigrant having descended from an immigrant’s family who squatted in this country. Ahmad Ismail cannot deny the fact that his grandfather and grandmother moved from India to this country in search of a better life in this blessed land.

It is also the case with Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi whose maternal grandfather hailed from Guangdong in southern China. In short, Pak Lah’s grandfather, Allahyarhamah Kailan, whose name was Hasson Salleh or Hah Su Chiang, was an immigrant. He moved to Tanah Melayu from Guangdong in the mid-19th century. He stayed in Bayan Lepas as a rubber estate worker, a padi farmer and later became a diamond trader.

Najib Tun Razak, Deputy Prime Minister, is also a descendant of an immigrant Bugis family that came from Sulawesi, Indonesia. Hishammudin Hussein cannot escape the fact that there is Turkish blood running through his veins.

The Malacca Malay Sultanate was founded by an immigrant coming from Sumatra — Parameswara, a prince who practised Hinduism.

A reading of the history of Malay Sultanates would reveal that some of them were founded by Bugis immigrants, while others were of Hadramut and Minangkabau parentage.

Almost all Malays living in this country are from outside Tanah Melayu, but are defined as “Malay Race” by the Federal Constitution. We are “Malay” in definition by the Constitution, that is, we are Muslims; we practise Malay customs and speak the Malay language. Unfortunately, the Malay language itself seems> to have been killed by the Malays in UMNO when they named it the Malaysian language (Bahasa Malaysia).

Therefore, Arabs like Syed Hamid Albar and myself, Achehs like Sanusi Junid, Indians like Kader Sheikh Fadzir and Nor Mohamed Yakcop, Bugises like Najib, Minangs like Rais Yatim, Jawas like Mohamad Rahmat, and others from Madura, Pulau Buyan, Siam, Myanmar, Yunnan (China) and the Philippines are conveniently categorized as Malays.

They are accepted as Malays regardless of whether they speak Malay or otherwise at home like those of us who speak Arabic, the Jawas that speak Jawa, the Minangs that speak Minang, or the Mamak that speak Tamil..

These languages are anything but Malay if we look at it from the perspective of the Federal Constitution, so they should never have been declared Malays. But for the sake of political correctness, all of them are accepted as Malays and “Earth Princes” (bumiputra).

It is grossly unfair to point to the Chinese as immigrants when the Arabs, Indians, Achehs, Minangs, Bataks, Mandailings, Jawas, Maduras, and Bugises are immigrants no less in this country. We cannot deny the fact that most of the Chinese’s grandfathers and

grandmothers migrated to this country in the days of the Malacca Malay Sultanante, some of whom did so during the period of Kedah Sultanate, Terengganu Sultanate and Kelantan Sultanate respectively.. After Francis Light wrested Penang from the hands of the sultan of Kedah in 1786, more Chinese had arrived here.

We must never forget the contributions and sacrifices made by all the races in building our nation in all its aspects, including the economy, social structure, national defense and, most importantly, national unity. We are all taxpayers whether or not we are descended from immigrants or squatters.

When bad people make law, we ended up with bad laws.

For decades, inadequate delivery systems have diverted our law makers from their original legislation duty to that of local councilors, rendering the due process of drafting progressive, fair and reasonable law as a secondary, or even ignored, role.

World Class Parliament = World Class Law = Good Place to Live
Crap Parliament = Crap Law = Crappy Place to Live

Within the MP ranks, with characters such as “close one eye”, “bocor” and “RM1 million FB page”, how many right minded tax payers can safely say they have the utmost confidence in their ability then?

This is what I have in mind when I read some of the laws relating to conduct of general elections.

According to section 15 of AKTA PILIHAN RAYA 1958, PERATURAN-PERATURAN PILIHAN RAYA (PENDAFTARAN PEMILIH) 2002,

1. Objections to any addition to the voters’ roll must be made within 7 days from the date the supplementary electoral roll is open for inspection; (supposedly every quarter hence 4 times a year)

2. A person can only object against up to 10 registered names only; and

3. A fee of RM10 is to be charged for each name being submitted for protest.

Section 15 made me choked on my tau foo fah, I tell you.

1. 7 days only limitation

Every quarterly updates may contain hundreds and thousands of names. Is it reasonable to allow only a 7 day window period for public to review and investigate?

Revisiting the disgusting errors DAP recently discovered – lesbian marriage involving a female army personnel, dozens of army wives carrying IC which actually belong to their husbands etc. These are not innocent, straight forward errors but sophisticated mischief not visible to the naked eye or reasonable bystander.

http://www.themalaysianinsider.com/malaysia/article/reform-vote-now-as-evidence-mounts-says-dap-leader/

New voters have to wait for months before they can check if they are being registered properly so why the glaring double standard here? Income Revenue Board can investigate up to 7 years back, testing our memories to the limit and in case of fraud, there is no limit in the number of backlog years.

Yet, how come the mistake ridden SPR / EC is so damn well protected with this 7 days only ruling? Does the legislators ever thought of interested citizens do have other things to do in life? After multiple orgamistic screaming of Rakyat Diutamakan, this punter is extremely disappointed with the fake front, all form no substance.

How prominent and transparent are displays of these supplementary electoral rolls? We can see the newspaper publishing those lucky ones heading to National Service but where is the electoral roll being located for public inspection? SPR/EC has been doing a very poor job in this respect.

2. 10 objections per person

Limiting a person’s right to object more than 10, is without logic, especially with an error prone SPR/EC.

If a policeman sees 3 men committing a crime should we legislate and limit him to say, he can only arrest 2 persons a day only? Would that make sense? Why limit pursue of correct records?

To this tax payer, it appears to be a form of non-financial bailout of a Barisan Nasional dependent/supporting party.

If there is a sysmatic abuse, e.g. the dozens of shemales in the army camp, then surely there would be more than 10. A talented and committed individual who uncovered this would be blocked by this stupid rule.

I wonder what was said in the parliament when they scanned through this section, or did the ruling coalition bulldozed this through?

3. RM10 fee per protested person

It is also adding insult to injury to penalize concerned and justice-minded citizens for RM10 when SPR/EC (already well funded by tax payers) is suppose to investigate and correct their own gross, laughable and irresponsible or even errors.

If anything, the RM10 should be taken out from the salary of the offending SPR/EC personnel who is guilty of an offence under section 3 (1)(a) of Akta Kesalahan Pilihanraya, 1954 for knowingly make any false statement on or in connection with any application to be placed on any register of electors.

So when PAS brought up the magical 170,818 71'ers to JPN, would SPR/EC be anticipating a windfall of RM1,708.180 then? This is as plain a ripe off as I see it.

Helluva for Rakyat Diutamakan.

The 3 rules above are designed to frustrate initiatives to detect and act against deliberate or mass manipulation of electoral roll. The people drafting and approving this piece of legislation clearly do not have idea what fairness and justice means, or worse, have certain agenda in mind and practice.

The BN sponsored election practices review committee would do well to answer this tax payer by addressing the above.

Najib says to end Bumi quotas eventually but experts ask when is 'eventually'

Najib says to end Bumi quotas eventually but experts ask when is 'eventually'

Prime Minister Najib Razak again hinted at the need to eventually do away with Bumiputera quotas, but after the repeated failures to breathe life into his New Economic Model, experts were cautious and called on him to state a proper and definitive time line.

"The reassurance is encouraging but when will the plan be carried out and for how long more will there be preferential treatment as this affects national unity as well as socio-economic progress. So the question is, for how long more must Malaysians wait?" Ramon Navaratnam, chairman of the Centre for Public Policy Studies told Malaysia Chronicle.

At the Khazanah Megatrends Forum on Tuesday, Najib raised the spectre of his all-but-defunct NEM, which had been shot down by former prime minister Mahathir Mohamad and even his own deputy Muhyiddin Yassin.

“We want to do away from with quotas but we must support them (Bumiputera entrepreneurs) in a way that would allow them to grow,” he told the forum on Tuesday.

“If we give them quotas, what will happen is that they will rest on their laurels and eventually, they will not gain expertise."

Nothing new, has said it before

Najib also said the 30 per cent Bumiputera equity target “does not mean anything” if receipients sold off their shares. He pointed to his admistration's newly-hatched plan to train 1,100 top small, micro and medium-sized Bumiputera companies as part of efforts help them be more resilent to competition.

However, experts have been less than impressed, pointing to similar plans made during the days when Mahathir was still PM, and how little progress was actually made.

Malaysia had introduced an affirmative action plan to eradicate poverty in 1971 but after years of abuse, the New Economic Policy is no longer regarded as a wealth distrubution mechanism but more of a racial favortism program used as a tool to keep Najib's Umno party in power, and also to mask top-level corruption by the ruling elite.

The last time Najib spoke at length about lifting quotas was in 2010. He drew serious rebuke from Mahathir and Malay rights groups such as Perkasa. They are likely to pan his latest comments although in a much more muted and subtle way given that Najib may decde to call for snap general elections in Novermber.

Malay supremacy

Najib's Umno party has controlled the federal government since 1957, and with near absolute power in its hands, had evolved a mindset known as Ketuanan Melayu or Malay supremacy, where the race demands first rights and biggest share of the political, social, economic and educational pie.

Using Malay supremacy, or the possible loss of it, to scare the Malays into voting for it, Umno has succeeded in the dividing the races and using racial suspicion and distrust to stay in power. Critics have long accused the NEP of being a mere mask for corruption most foul.

Meanwhile, government statistics show that 96.7 percent of Malaysians living below the poverty line were Malays.

"After 53 years in power, the Malays and bumiputera are still neglected. The 30 percent Malay-bumiputera equity has yet to be met. Of the RM54 billion equity and shares for bumiputera, only RM2 billion still belong to them,” PKR president Wan Azizah Wan Ismail has said.

She criticised the BN for its lack of economic reform and insistence on clinging to the NEP.

IGP must explain how UMNO could organise a program inside the FRU Unit area at Seremban Police HQ while UMNO flag and banners were displayed

Markas FRU penuh bendera Umno

Speech by Datuk Ishak on supporting UMNO party politics
On 26 September 2011, held at Police Headquarters, the Federal Reserve Unit personnel (Unit 7 PSP NS) has held a joint program with the UMNO political party. On that day the Umno flag filling the space around the headquarters and stated clearly FRU name and logo in the banner behind the stage Umno. Even Seremban Umno division chief spoke about supporting totally for his UMNO political party.

Solidarity Youth Negeri Sembilan Malaysia view this very seriously. This shows in particular FRU police are forced to support only UMNO. Inspector-General of Police should state his stand on this unusual event since the police are to be viewed non-partisan on political involvement. Dato 'Hj. Ishak Ismail, who does not hold any government position, spoke in his capacity as Seremban Umno division chief, which is very unbecoming as the police force should be viewed to protect everyone and every political party and should not be bias to just UMNO..

This matter is viewed very seriously since this program happen after police gave protection to protesters while failing to act with the occurrence of the attack by Seremban Umno Youth and Perkasa, who had harmed members of the public who were present at a briefing by PAS deputy President, MP Mat Sabu held during the weekend.

Translated from original Malay text as follows:

Ucapan Dato Ishak sungguh bersifat politik kepartian

Hah! Padan muka!

Do you know how low I felt, the nephew of Malaysia’s Agong having to join the ranks of the illegal Indonesian immigrants selling food on the streets of Sungai Buloh? I felt, in the interest of justice, I should have at least been given two months notice, not sacked on the spot just three days after the general election.

NO HOLDS BARRED

Raja Petra Kamarudin

Yes, padan muka (serves you right)! I am talking about the two items below.

Let’s talk about the Human Rights Party (Hindraf) piece first (below).

They lament that for 40 years the Indians have been sidelined. That means since 1970 or so.

Why lament? I have been telling the Indians the same thing for 35 years or so since I first became politically active in the 1970s. I remember, when I told the Indians this, they refused to listen. So now, padan muka! You made your bed, now lie in it. And I hope you suffer more before it gets better. There is no better lesson than suffering.

When I said that MIC cannot and will not look after the Indian interest, the Indians replied that they regard Samy Vellu as a God. They revered Samy Vellu even as the MIC President was selling out the Indians.

Do you know how much Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad gave to MIC? But NONE went to the Indians. It all went into the pockets of the MIC leaders. Go ask Dr Mahathir if you want the full details. And while the MIC leaders plundered whatever Dr Mahathir gave the Indians, the Indians sembah Samy Vellu like he was God.

I once asked (back in the 1980s) a senior Umno leader: why do the Indians still keep Samy Vellu as their leader when he is not helping the Indians? And this Umno leader replied that it is not the Indians but Umno who was keeping Samy Vellu as the MIC leader. This is because Samy Vellu works for Umno, I was told.

Also, back in the 1980s, I had a meeting with Samy Vellu (I was then a central committee member of the Malay Chamber of Commerce and Industry) to discuss some issues concerning the Malay contractors (they were being bankrupted by the 1980s world recession).

And do you know what Samy Vellu told me? He said: I am already doing so much for the Malays. I am a leader for the Malays, not for the Indians. Samy Vellu held up his right arm and said: Malay blood runs through my veins. Without Malay votes I will never become a Minister. So I will do everything within my power to help the Malays, he concluded.

But when I revealed this to the Indians they still sembah Samy Vellu and call him God.

I asked the Indians: why does Samy Vellu not negotiate with the government to start a FELDA scheme for the Indians, in particular the displaced and retrenched Indian estate workers? FELDA settlers are getting rich, I told them. They earn more than even university graduates. They are buying RM30,000 motorbikes (and that was back in the 1980s and 1990s mind you).

We have FELDA settlements for retired army and police personnel. Why not also one for the Indians? But no, Samy Vellu is God, even though all he needed to do was move his fat arse and it would have been a fait accompli -- but he did not do so.

I personally asked Dr Mahathir why he gave all those shares, etc., to MIC and not directly to the Indians -- like, say, start an ASI (Amanah Saham India)? Dr Mahathir replied that 90% of the Indians vote for MIC. So this means the Indians support MIC and regard it as their legitimate ‘wakil’.

So there you have it. 90% of the Indians vote for MIC. So MIC receives all the government aid on behalf of the Indians. But it never went to the Indians -- while they sembah Samy Vellu and call him God.

Yes, I know, Raja Petra Kamarudin is a racist who whacks the Indians. Sudahlah! Podah! For 35 years I have been telling you this. And for 35 years you refused to listen. Now suffer. I am enjoying this ‘I told you so!’. It’s the best birthday present I ever had -- the pleasure I get from telling you ‘I told you so’ after 35 years of failing to wake you Indians from your sleep.

Now, on the second piece (below).

Pakatan Rakyat is grumbling that the mainstream media (MSM) is lying and distorting what they say. Again, padam muka! Soon after the 1999 general election -- together with Zunar, the late Rustam Sani, Zul Sulong and a few others -- we launched the ‘Boikot TV3, Utusan and NST’ campaign.

The opposition coalition of PKN (now PKR), DAP, PAS and PRM -- called Barisan Alternatif -- shot it down. They disagreed. They said we must practice freedom of the media. So no ‘Boikot TV3, Utusan and NST’ campaign.

We said that freedom of the media is fine, but not freedom to lie and distort. Eventually, we had to launch it as a ‘private initiative’ outside the party. The four opposition parties would not support the campaign. I was pissed big-time.

During one press conference in the run-up to the 1999 general election, I chased TV3 out of the office and threatened them with violence if they ever tried to gatecrash again. The opposition leaders were very angry about this incident (which was reported on TV3 that same night). And, three days after the general election, I was sacked from my post of media coordinator.

For many months my wife, Marina, had to fry curry puffs, which I went round Sungai Buloh to sell house-to-house. It was with tears in my eyes that I had to endure a life of hawking to be able to put food on the table -- all because I was a loose cannon whom the party can’t seem to control.

Later, during the PKR party convention in Kelana Jaya, my wife put up a notice banning the MSM from entering the hall. She also placed bouncers at the entrance with a mandate to beat up anyone who tries to force their way in.

When the PKR Deputy President found out, he scolded us and told us to remove the sign. He instructed us to allow the MSM into the hall. My wife was fuming mad.

Yes, it has always been an uphill battle to fight back against the lying MSM. And the obstacle has always been the opposition itself. Then, when I gave an interview with TV3 in February this year (like how I have taught to do so by the opposition since 1999), I get whacked to kingdom come and get called all sorts of things.

I am happy that the opposition is now facing a problem with this Hudud issue that has been spun and distorted by the MSM. This is another lovely birthday present: the pleasure to say, “I told you so!”

A.S.N. launched 40 years ago with World Bank funds but lost opportunities for Indian poor. Only rich & poor Malay/Muslims benefitted.

With the RM 200 million pumped in to Amanah Saham Nasional (PNB) (presumably loan from the World Bank) this money was used not for all 1 Malaysian poor but for only the Malay-Muslims the rich and the poor.

With this money loans were given to the Malay-Muslims to buy shares in PNB and the repayments were deducted from the dividends, bonus, etc. So the estimated 17 million Malay-Muslims got for “free” at tens of thousands ringgit each after 40 years.

This was made possible largely by the UMNO government selling prime pieces of land in the KL city and in major towns. Also by the sale of the UMNO government blue chip shares and prime high yielding investments of PNB.

Also this way PNB today after 40 years is worth RM 150 billion (source: PNB website). But only redistributed to the rich and poor Malays under UMNO’s agenda in socially engineering the Indian poor if not to become poorer.

And to the exclusion and segregation of the Indian poor many of whom have become relatively poorer in these 40 years.

But 1Malay-sian Prime Minister Najib Razak says this is the real 1Malaysia.

We never threatened to quit Pakatan Rakyat: DAP

DAP has strongly denied that its secretary general Lim Guan Eng had threatened to quit Pakatan Rakyat's leadership council due to differences over the Hudud law, and said MCA-controlled The Star, which has been dedicating its pages on the Islamic deterrent punishment for serious crimes, had twisted his words.

In a letter today, Lim’s political secretary Zairil Khir Johari stressed that Lim had instead pledge that the party's Central Executive Committee (CEC) would resign en-masse "if anyone can prove that Hudud law would be implemented in the Common Policy Framework (CPF) or Buku Jingga that has been presented to the public.”

Buku Jingga, or the Orange Book, outlines the coalition's common policies in governance as well as reforms it said would be carried out within the first hundreds days of power at the Federal level.

According to Zairil, the paper had initially published a correct report on its online version, but the next day, it said DAP would quit PR, under the heading "DAP leaders threaten to quit Pakatan council".

“This is categorically untrue as Lim had neither made any threats to quit the Pakatan Rakyat leadership council, nor the Pakatan Rakyat in general," he said, and urged the daily to explain the stark contradictions.

Earlier, MCA president Dr Chua Soi Lek threatened to pull out from Barisan Nasional if UMNO lent support to any attempt by Kelantan to implement the popular Hudud laws there.

This followed a statement by UMNO deputy president Muhyiddin Yasin saying that as a Muslim, he could not oppose the laws, but would not implement them at present.

Yesterday, PR issued a gag order on leaders across the three parties from issuing any statements on the hudud row, until they meet on September 28.

“We do not want to blame anyone for having issued statements about hudud but it has been blown out of proportion now.

“Hence we decided that until the 28th (Wednesday), there must be no longer any statements issued on this matter from all three parties, whether PAS, PKR or DAP,” said PAS secretary general Mustafa Ali, in a joint statement with his PKR counterpart Saifuddin Nasution and DAP deputy secretary general Anthony Loke.

When an Indonesian can be bumi within years

'Whoever in the NRD and Immigration that approved the citizenship status of these people has committed an act of treason.'

Citizenship for Mismah 'against immigration rules'

Gunner: Like Mismah, 700,000 in Sabah had been granted Malaysian citizenship based on 'special case'.

Remember one Malaysiakini reader who wrote that some time ago, Mohamad came all the way from Kerala, India, and got married to local woman. His son, Mahathir, eventually became the fourth PM of Malaysia.

Similarly, let say Kiram bin Juksat, a Tausug descent from Zamboanga, Philippines, landed in Sandakan searching for a job in the oil palm estate in 1998. In 2011, under the 'special case' and perhaps armed with a fake birth certificate, Kiram is given Malaysian citizenship.

Some 19 years later, his son is admitted as Universiti Malaysia Sabah student. Soon after graduation, he enters politics and becomes, yes, the chief minister of Sabah.

My Thor: Rules are man-made and can be broken or twisted to suit oneself. In Malaysia, despite all the hue and cry, mass registration for citizenship is ongoing without the need to meet the conditions so long as they are Muslim.

One day, Malaysia will be colonised again by foreigners, who will proclaim Malaysia as a republic, whereby the royalty is dethroned as was the case in their countries. God save our king!

Anonymous: So Mismah qualified under the 'special case' category. What is special here? I can't see what differentiate her from the rest. Can the home minister please shed some light on this?

Thisia: An Indonesian labourer is given PR within one year of her arrival in Malaysia and then years later, citizenship.

Now she is a bumiputera and enjoying all the special privileges accorded to them, where else the Chinese and Indians who have been citizen for ages and have contributed so much to the country is treated like second-class or even third-class citizens.

Dear Malaysians, is this fair?

Ashoka PJ: My mother, born in Labu, Negeri Sembilan, in 1931 went to Sri Lanka and came back here in 1940s and married a local Malayan. She still holds a red IC (identity card) and remains stateless to this day.

Kgen: The Immigration Department and NRD show a shocking bias in giving easy citizenship to unskilled labourers from Indonesia, southern Philippines and Bangladesh but real Malaysian citizens who have some irregularities in their documentation are denied citizenship no matter how many decades they have waited.

What is the use of rules so proudly stated by Immigration director-general if you don't follow them?

Malaysian For Malaysia: Whoever in the NRD (National Registration Department) and Immigration who approved the citizenship status of these people has committed an act of treason to the king and country.

How can those in the NRD sleep peacefully knowing they have aided and abetted treason against the country?

Malaysians need to unite. Let's actively start weeding out these foreigners in our local communities. Find them, report them. The Umno-BN hegemony must be brought to end for the sake of our country.

Dr Zafar Shah: It takes 10 to 15 years or more for Burmese professionals to get PR (permanent resident), but never citizenship. For Indonesians, Filipinos and southern Thais, the process is fast-tracked, like Mismah.

We ask for equal treatment for all foreigners. Malaysia is facing a brain drain. With low salary, Malaysia's ex-citizens are refusing to come back. The country could not attract American and European expats.

Malaysia should understand that in time, it needs to attract Burmese professionals like Singapore is doing now.

But if Malaysia foolishly continues to give priority to Indonesian labourers for their votes, do not forget that there are a lot of them who are opposition sympathisers and some Bali bombers were Indonesians with Malaysia PRs.

Faz: With Umno-BN at the helm, all government departments are their party extensions. When you scrutinise the SOP (standard operation procedure), you will find the SOP is only for show.

Instructions to grant citizenships from Umno-BN do not follow SOP as these people do not qualify in the first place. Digging up records will expose more discrepancies and expect the departments concerned to tell more lies to cover these up.

Tkc: I have heard of a case where another Indonesian - who did not qualify under any of the listed criteria - was granted citizenship fairly easily after residing in Malaysia for four or five years.

She still treats Indonesia as home and goes back to visit her parents a couple of times a year. Interestingly, she does not want to register as a voter but one should not be surprised if someone else turns up on polling day to cast a vote on her behalf.

Onyourtoes: What if I tell you a case where the father and mother are PRs, but the child is a full citizen with bumi status? Can you see now we can never meet the objective of NEP.

Tell me how when there are thousands of them coming here rat poor, swelling the ranks of bumiputeras and then starting to claim privileges.

Jedi_Who: Johor PAS Youth chief Suhaizan Kaiat, you have done your nation proud. Thanks for exposing the acts of treason by the government, especially the Home Ministry.

We need to file an injunction to stop these unqualified citizens (anywhere from one milliion to 2.5 million) from being on the electoral roll until the court decides otherwise. Then, perhaps we can have a fair election.

Dood: Rules don't apply to Umno/BN and their lackeys. No need to look at Mismah's case. Just think of Sabah and Project M.

Why hudud law is everybody’s business in Malaysian society
