Another National Service (PLKN) fatal!

Well, it happens again! National service (NS) trainee Too Hui Min had complained of constipation for three days before she died and her family wants to know why camp officials did not take her to the hospital earlier.

As being a trainee myself a few years back, I have to say that security and health issues in most of the NS camps are poor! Most of their foods suck, water-supplies being cut-off from time to time, cleanliness, racial fights, religion and NS rules clashing with each other and lastly, the security itself.

There have been numerous calls to scrap this whole NS thing but at the end, it falls on the deaf ears. Seriously, those “Semangat Patriotisme” and “Semangat Cintakan Negara” spirit-implementation is a total failure! I’m saying this based on my personal experience, as the moment I went to my camp, and the moment I finished my 3 months stint-training made no difference at all. (physically yes, but mentally no!).

I’m not going to talk much about this as I’m not sure how the current training is being conducted as during my time, there was no ‘gun-shooting’ training and all that but I do believe the problems that I mentioned above are still persisting in most, or at least, some of the camps.

I could still remember when those NS officials were bragging about how good the “Yes to NS” card is and its benefits but until now, I’m yet to receive the card nor have I seen it!

After seeing all these NS death cases, how would those parents and future trainees themselves trust the government? The parents are sending their kids to be trained at the sole discretion of the NS council and not for their kids to end up being DEAD in the camp!As a conclusion, NS is a big waste of money and a big waste of time. Once and for all, just put a full stop on it!
