Selangor exco have equal number of Malays, non-Malays

An equal number of Malays and non-Malays have been selected for the 10 Selangor executive council positions.

Parti Keadilan Rakyat will get four seats while DAP and Pas will have three each.

The five Malays are Yaakob Sapari (Kota Angerik) and Rodziah Ismail (Batu Tiga) of the PKR and Dr Hassan Ali (Gombak Setia), Dr Halimah Ali (Selat Kelang) and Iskandar Abdul Samad (Cempaka) of Pas.

Dr Xavier Jayakumar (Seri Andalas) and Elizabeth Wong (Bukit Lanjan) of PKR and Ronnie Liu (Pandamaran), Teresa Kok (Kinrara) and Ean Yong Hian Hua (Seri Kembangan) of the DAP are the non-Malay exco members.

The 10 yesterday appeared at a swearing-in rehearsal at Istana Kayangan.

Missing from the line-up was four-term assemblyman Teng Chang Khim (Sungai Pinang).

The veteran DAP leader was the Selangor opposition leader from 1995 to1999 and again from 2004 to March this year.

It is learnt that Teng has been proposed for the position of speaker of the state assembly, but the appointment is subject to approval by the Selangor Sultan.

Menteri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim said an official announcement would be made after the swearing-in ceremony on Monday. - NST
