SHAH ALAM: The Malaysian Bar Council has called on all quarters not to politicise the High Court decision allowing a catholic weekly to use the word ‘Allah” in their sermons and publications.
President, K. Ragunath said there were no winners or losers in the issue and that it was best handled rationally and with understanding.
“Politicising this issue will have a negative impact on racial unity. The better alternative is to remain calm and discuss the issue,” he had reportedly told a weekly newspaper.
Ragunath believes the High Court’s decision will not affect the faith of the muslims because the word “Allah” had been in use in churches in Sabah and Sarawak for a long time.
Citing the Johor state anthem, he said although the song contained the word “Allah”, it was sung by all Johorians regardless of race and religion and each applied it according to their own beliefs.
“As such, it is not sensible to make a big deal out of this issue,” he said.
