Pornthip issue could backfire on MACC and police

SHAH ALAM: Newly sworn-in MACC commissioner Datuk Abu Kassim Mohamed is threading on thin ice by accusing renowned Thai pathologist Dr Pornthip Rojanasunand of leaking information on the outcome of the second post-mortem on Teoh Beng Hock.

DAP life adviser Dr Chen Man Hin said that “MACC and police are also privy to the information in the autopsy room and could have leaked out the information.

“My suspicion is that the leaked source could be from MACC or the police,” he wrote in Lim Kit Siang’s blog today.

“ If you read the Suara Keadilan report carefully, it is clear that the ‘leaked sources’ need not necessarily have been Pornthip herself but could have been anyone connected to the autopsy room at the time the second post mortem was conducted.

He said the wild accusations that Pornthip was responsible for the leaks might backfire on the police and or MACC who had their own agenda.

“They want to attach blame on the pathologist Pornthip engaged by the opposition to get to the truth of the death of Teoh Beng Hock.

“Pornthip has a formidable reputation worldwide and would not resort to unethical behaviour. To implicate her for breach of ethics is foolish and ill advised,” said Chen.

On Jan 2, the MACC filed a police report against Pornthip over her statement about the possibility that Teoh Beng Hock was murdered.

The report claimed that Pornthip had leaked the contents of her autopsy report to “irrelevant parties” and was thus in contempt of court.

Last week, the National Justice Party-owned Suara Keadilan quoted unnamed sources in the Health Ministry as saying that Pornthip had given her report to the relevant authorities, including the Teoh family, on Beng Hock’s second post mortem, conducted at the Sungei Buloh Hospital last November.

The weekly quoted its sources as saying that Pornthip had gathered enough forensic evidence to adduce that Teoh was a victim of foul play.

Pornthip has denied claims that she leaked information regarding the second forensic report.
