'Ketuanan Melayu': Learn from the superpowers

I’m totally disgusted when this ‘frog’ Ibrahim Ali, president of Perkasa and his rant about ‘Ketuanan Melayu’ and branding himself as a Islamic nationalist with the non-Malays as the enemies. Everyone can see he is pretending to be the savior of Malays and Islam and whatnot.

Many people have reacted, some angrily, against his statements and remarks. These generally have been the non-Malays. What about the Malays? Why are Malays generally silent? Do they, including those in Pakatan Rakyat and BN, agree with his view?

‘Ketuanan Malayu’ results in the implementation of discriminative policies which favours the Malays at the expense of the non-Malays and at the same time make our beloved country uncompetitive as a whole. It is the root cause of disunity in our country.

In general, be it in Pakatan or BN, most Malays are still inclined towards supporting the idea of ‘Ketuanan Melayu’. You may see a lot of them talking that all Malaysian are equal, ‘1Malaysia’ and all that, but when it comes to casting their votes, they are most likely to select the party that support the idea of ‘Ketuanan Melayu’.

And these parties are in BN, and some in Pakatan as well. We don’t see them coming out on a large scale to condemn publicly this inhumane idea/policy and this indicates their tacit approval of the concept.

Learning from 500 years of history of the superpowers like the US, France, UK, Germany etc it has been proven that national administrative systems which once favoured the minority elites finally had to give way to today’s strong democratic systems.

Foreseeing the end result, why are some people still harping on the meaningless ‘Ketuanan’ in Malaysia? We can learn from the history of the superpowers and bypass the deadly process of true democratisation.

Our leaders should address this issue now. If the ruling party lacks the will and foresight to right the wrongs, perhaps Pakatan can do it after the next general elections?

Pakatan cannot be on both sides of fence. You are either for it or against it and non-Malays can see this vacillation clearly. Non-Malays are waiting for the day when all the rakyat will accept all Malaysians without classification and discard the outdated and inhumane idea of ‘Ketuanan Melayu".
