Suhakam commissioner James Nayagam and the Bar Council say they support the rights to hold a peaceful assembly.
KUALA LUMPUR: Suhakam and the Bar Council are fully in support of the Bersih 3.0 rally.
Suhakam commissioner James Nayagam says the Bersih 3.0 rally is a peaceful gathering.
“I am here to negotiate. Its peaceful according to the Federal Constitution, said the Suhakam commissioner who was near Dataran.
“I am neutral party to ensure both parties respect each others rights and assemble peacefully.
“I am here also to monitor any form of abuse, which is anything that
would lead to violence. I don’t see any reason why people are not
allowed to gather.
“I’m also here to mediate if there’s any negotiation that needs to be
done. I am concerned with the presence of children and elderly people.
Generally, the constitution says everyone can gather anywhere and by
right they should be allowed into Dataran.”
Bar Council observer Daniel Lo, also echoed similar sentiments
“Its their right to protest. In principle Bar Council supports rights to peaceful assembly,” Lo said.
Meanwhile a number of opposition spokespersons spoke to the crowd gathered in front of the Maybank towers in Jalan Tun Perak.
Zulkefly Mohamad Omar, a PAS spokesperson said: “We are here because
the EC has been used by the BN. We are here to say our support to the
Pakatan Rakyat and NGO to clean our democracy. We don’t want corrupt
leaders who take bribes.”
“We don’t want foreigners in our voter rolls!”
DAP’s Bakri MP Er Teck Hwa said: “I hope those of you who have not registered to become voters will do so soon.”
