KUANTAN: Opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim has reiterated that Christians should be allowed to call God “Allah.”
Christians have been using it for 1,000 years and this was not an issue, said the Permatang Pauh MP and Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) leader.
“Our stand, similar to PAS, is that the word can be used by non-Muslims, but it should not be abused,” he told reporters after opening the state PKR convention in Tan Jung Restaurant here yesterday.
“The issue to address now is whether it may be abused and not its actual use per se by those of the Christian faith.”
PAS has said it backs the use of the word by Catholics and that its stand is consistent with the Federal Constitution and Islamic principles.
