Police have summoned businessman Shazryl Eskay Abdullah, one of the 'Datuk T' trio, to give his DNA sample to facilitate investigations into a sex video, reinforcing speculation that Prime Minister Najib Razak's government was "out to get" Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim.
"I don't see why they want his DNA. The police should just focus on the part where the law has been broken which is the screening of the pornographic material in public," PKR vice president N Surendran told Malaysia Chronicle.
Anwar has denied any involvement in the tape that purported showed a man resembling him having sex with a prostitute.

But instead of speeding up the probe, the police have delayed charging Shazryl and two of his other accomplices - former Malacca mentri besar Rahim Thambi Chik and former Perkasa treasurer Shuaib Lazim. All three men are members of Umno, which is Najib's party.
The trio had booked a suite at the swanky Carcosa Seri Negara hotel last month and showed the video to a select group of journalists. They also invited select PKR elected representatives to watch the 21-minute tape in a bid to persuade them to defect to Umno.
It is illegal to possess or screen pornographic material in public and those caught can be jailed up to 5 years.
But despite their public confession, none of the men were arrested and only had their statements recorded.
An Omega watch that the men claimed they found in the hotel room where the sex act was filmed was highlghted to the public, with the police chief even hinting that ownership of the watch could be traced to Anwar.
"The Malaysian public are outraged and aghast that after more than a month former Malacca Chief Minister Tan Sri Rahim Tamby Cik, Datuk Shazryl Eskay Abdullah and Datuk Shuib Lazim have not been charged in court for various crimes for the Carcosa sex video public screening on March 21, which they had confessed also more than a month ago, and yet, the most serious matter occupying the minds of the police is to “expose the sex video performer!" said DAP adviser Lim Kit Siang in a statement.
"Who are the police really serving – the Malaysian nation and public by punishing crimes and upholding the rule of law or the Barisan Nasional/UMNO political masters to dance to their latest tune to use the police to plumb to the lowest dregs of gutter politics in the history of Malaysia?"
Trying to futher discredit Anwar
Yet on Wednesday, the police chose to further delay the case by seeking Shazryl's DNA.
"Maybe this is just to allow the mainstream media such as Utusan to frontpage and demand that Anwar also give his DNA. After all if Shazryl can, why not Anwar if he is innocent," PKR vice president Tian Chua told Malaysia Chronicle.
Eskay had earlier in the afternoon told reporters that he had given his DNA sample to the police after they requested for it. He also said the police wanted to ask him further questions.
According to Shazryl, he will be holding a press conference on Thursday. He declined to comment further.
