Police Deny Rumours Of Karpal's Arrest

PENANG, May 13 (Bernama) -- Penang Acting Police Chief Datuk Salleh Mat Rasid on Tuesday denied rumours that DAP Chairman Karpal Singh had been arrested.

"Don't listen to rumours, we've not arrested him," Salleh told Bernama when contacted.

Text messages had been going around in Penang today claiming that the police would arrest the Bukit Gelugor member of parliament.

Meanwhile, Salleh said the investigation papers pertaining to Karpal's statement, questioning the right of the Sultan of Perak in ordering the reinstatement of Perak Islamic Religious Department director Datuk Jamry Sury, had been handed over to the Deputy Public Prosecutor.

Salleh said the case was being investigated under Section 4(1)(b) of the Sedition Act 1948.

Police recorded Karpal's statement for about two hours at his office in Jalan Green Hall here on Saturday.
