Najib can no longer ignore the PR wind of change in Johor - Anwar
A sea of people flooded Batu Pahat last Saturday night to hear speeches by Pakatan Rakyat leaders, in what is being seen as growing opposition against UMNO in its bastion.
Some 30,000 Johoreans turned up at the event, part of the on-going state-level Himpunan Kebangkitan Rakyat series nationwide.
Present were Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim, PAS president Tuan Guru Abdul Hadi Awang, PAS vice president Salahuddin Ayub, PAS state commissioner Mahfodz Mohamed and his PKR counterpart Chua Jui Meng.
Following Hadi's speech, several former senior Johor civil servants and former UMNO members handed over their PAS membership forms.
In his speech, Anwar said prime minister Najib Razak could no longer ignore the tide of change.
“There is no room for lip service and mere rhetoric in politics anymore. We must tell the rakyat (people) what we can offer and what we can do to provide good governance.
“Unlike BN, if we are given the mandate to administer Putrajaya after the next 13th General Election, we will ensure the eradication of corruption,” he said.
PR has identified Johor as one of its key targets at the coming polls, with several big names, including Salahuddin, slated to contest in the state.
