At one time, the Malaysian press was well-respected in Malaysia. They earned that respect with hard work, honesty, and by reporting on important stories. Unfortunately, the MSM has abandoned all of those principles which has rendered them completely irrelevant.
They now spend their time reporting on biased news which clearly reflects the unprofessionalism and unethical of the industry.
Gone are the days of unbiased or even true investigative reporting. We will never again see truly in-depth reporting designed to protect the public from our government as well as multi-national corporations. Is not the fact that our own Prime Minister is allowing and even encouraging a flood of untrue news in this country.
We now have a left-wing press which is the bloggers, internets and sms who will never report on anything that could damage the furtherance of the liberal and globalist agendas of which they approve. Rather than information that will expose a corrupt government and empower an oppressed public, we are given sensationalist gossip by these so-called serious journalists.
The important fact is that it is biased, claims to be true yet presents only one side of the story. The complete refusal by the mainstream press to report on important and true stories is the reason why Malaysians have turned away from newspapers and network news. They have instead turned to talk in the internet and even more so to the sms for coverage of the untold stories as well as many others which the MSM pretends do not exist.
If the rakyat have strictly followed the MSN, there is no reason why BN would have been defeated and humiliated in the 12th general election. This is a clear indication that people have rejected the MSN which are biased news.

I still use the mainstream media, but I immediately flip to the back to read the sports news, then I get a bit of International and finally I read the comics.
The newspapers will never be free until we remove the laws that restrict their freedom. We need to remove the ISA that threatens the personal freedoms of journalist who question anything deemed 'sensitive'. We need to remove the OSA, that politicians use to hide their corruption. We need to remove the requirements for permits to publish.
I don't blame the mainstream press, if you were the editor, you have a choice, either report the truth with in depth analysis, or conform to the regulators. Non-conformance could mean closure, which means not only the editor losing his job, but every employee, right down to the cleaning lady. The editor, has a responsibility to the readers, but his readers jobs are not at risk, his employees are.
