KUALA LUMPUR: The motion for the repeal of the Internal Security Act and for the release of those detained under the Act was unanimously passed at the 62th annual general meeting of the Malaysian Bar yesterday.
At the meeting, Bar Council president Ambiga Sreenevasan, vice-president Ragunath Kesavan, secretary Lim Chee Wee and treasurer George Varughese were re-elected for a second term.
A quorum of 500 was reached at 10.30am.
A total of 10 motions were submitted for the AGM, but two were withdrawn at the meeting.
The motions of no-confidence against the Bar Council and its Disciplinary Committee were defeated.
According to Ambiga, it was decided at the Bar Council meeting the previous day to request for dialogue sessions with all the state governments in the country.
