KUALA LUMPUR (AP) - THE secretary-general of Malaysia's ruling party says he is quitting the party after being dropped from the Cabinet in the wake of disastrous election results for the ruling coalition.
Mr Mohammed Radzi Sheikh Ahmad is the secretary-general of the United Malays National Organisation (Umno). He told reporters on Wednesday he is also quitting that post as well as his post as the secretary-general of the National Front coalition. The coalition is dominated by Umno.
Mr Mohammed Radzi was home minister in the previous administration and was not given any post in the new Cabinet unveiled on Tuesday.
Mr Mohammed Radzi said: 'I feel that I cannot work effectively anymore.'
He is the first top level official in the Front or Umno to quit after the March 8 general elections.
