Umno's abuse of mosques in Pahang, Selangor exposed

KUANTAN - Pahang PAS has hit out at UMNO’s hypocrisy over the use of mosques by politicians at a time when UMNO has continously used the mosques for its agenda.

“The latest incident was 29 August ago, where UMNO Paya Besar used the Kampung Seri Fajar mosque in Gambang to host a breaking of fast event with Pahang Menteri Besar,” said PAS state commissioner Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man.

Tuan Ibrahim, who is also the PAS vice president, said the event showed the “two faces” of UMNO, and added that its ploy to harp on religious sentiments was now exposed.

“All the issues that were raised in the media, from the issue of non-Muslims entering the mosque to prayer for a non-Muslim, backfired on them.

"We hope the people will evaluate what is happening,” he said.

Meanwhile in Selangor, Shah Alam member of parliament labeled the Selangor Religious Department (JAIS) director Muhammad Khusrin Munawi as an 'UMNO agent' for attempting to accomodate Selangor UMNO to use the Nurul Ehsan mosque in Petaling Jaya for political activities.

Khalid said the nazir (administrator) of the Nurul Ehsan mosque in Kampung Medan had initially refused a request to have an iftar event featuring UMNO president Najib Razak at the mosque.

The mosque however relented after a second letter was issued using the Prime Minister's letterhead, with an agreement that the event would be held at the mosque's parking lot.

Khalid also showing the press a copy of a letter sent by Selangor UMNO's liaison committee secretary Badrul Hisham Badrudin, adding that Khusrin had lobbied with the mosque's committee to allow the event to be held despite a decree by the Selangor Sultan against politically related activities at all mosques in the state.

“This is clear cut. It goes against the royal decree and proves Khusrin is an UMNO agent," said Khalid.
