The Bersih 2.0 chief says it is an attack on civil society.
PETALING JAYA: Bersih 2.0 chairwoman S Ambiga is unperturbed over posters slandering her and Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng.
The posters have been appearing in the Klang Valley over the past few days.
“I am not a politician. The attack on Bersih is an attack on civil society. It is a cowardly act that reflects more on the perpetrators than us,” said Ambiga when asked to comment on the demeaning posters.
FMT spotted rows of the posters in Taman Tun Dr Ismail, Kuala Lumpur.
One poster had the pictures of Ambiga and Bersih co-chairman national laureate A Samad Said against a white background.
The words “lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans(gender)” in reference to LGBT community can be seen.
The bottom part of the poster is yellow in colour with the words “Undi Ambiga Undi Seks Bebas” (A vote for Ambiga is a vote for free sex).
Another poster vilifying Lim carries a message: “Lim Guan Eng Anti-Melayu” (Lim Guan Eng is anti-Malay).
When asked whether police reports have been lodged, Ambiga said, “The offence is obvious. We don’t need to lodge a report for the police to act.”
However, she added that a third party has lodged a police report last week.
Meanwhile, Samad Said noted that the attack on him is not new ever since he was involved in Bersih but the public knows better.
“The public is a thinking public. They know better. Even 1Malaysia is not popular among the society at large,” he said.
Samad Said dismissed the slander as meaningless.
Lim could not be reached for comments.
