DAP says it will defy police rules against raising sensitive and seditious issues, but Barisan says it plans to play by the rules.
Perak DAP chief Datuk Ngeh Koo Ham said that the DAP would defy police rules on ceramah, including raising sensitive issues such as the Altantuya murder case and those touching on the Malay Rulers.
Describing the ruling as unconstitutional,he said there was nothing in the law that barred political parties from raising the issues.
“If we did any wrong, the authorities should charge us,” he said on Wednesday.
Ngeh conceded that it would be contempt of court to discuss the Altantuya case that is ongoing in the High Court.
He was commenting on Home Minister Datuk Seri Syed Hamid Albar’s statement on Tuesday that political parties should not touch on sensitive or seditious issues.
Perak DAP secretary Nga Kor Ming said the Perak Barisan Nasional government should declare their stand on the permanent land title issue.
“Many from new and planned villages had even paid up the premium to convert their leasehold land to freehold but there had been no news since Barisan took over government on Feb 6,” he said.
He also questioned Barisan’s stand on the status of the nine independent schools that the previous Pakatan government had promised them.
Meanwhile, Bernama reported that Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir said Barisan Nasional would heed police warning against issuing or uttering seditious remarks.
