Constitutional question: Judges let natives down
Multi Racial: Our courts are just too predictable. We know who they favour even for those obvious cases. How are we going to find justice?
I suppose the true colour is finally out for Chief Justice Zaki Azmi. It was good for him to speed up clearing the back log in court cases. But that was merely form. What we care most is the substance, and the substance is about the integrity of the court and whether justice is serve.
I suppose there are just too many cases decided unfairly by the courts. As a result of that, the majority of people don't think highly of judges. Well, you can't blame them for perceiving this way as justice is not just about doing it right but also be seen to be doing it right.
But is the perception fair to all the judges? My answer is no. There are good judges such as Md Raus Sharif and Abdul Aziz Abdul Rahim, both of whom acted without fear and favour. We hope those like them represent the majority in the judiciary.
Tailek: It is disgraceful that our two most senior judges sworn to uphold the constitution and protect the rakyat's rights have abdicated their responsibility.
And to add insult to injury, the government changed the law specifically so that the chief justice can get full pension after serving as a senior judge for only three years instead of the required 15 years. What is this country coming to?
Onyourtoes: Is this not what we learned in Constitutional Law 101? And yet Zaki has retired with the pension law amended for him.
I think it is not that they do not have a good reason to decide on the constitutionality of this case; I think they just want to leave it open for future use, depending on the different parties involved perhaps.
PendatangMalaysia: In substance, the judiciary is a department under the PM's Department. On issues of importance, it will side with the BN government, the powerful and the rich. This is amply demonstrated in this case and in many other cases.
The red carpet treatment given to Zaki is another example of the subjugation of the judiciary by Umno. Was it any surprise that the court ruled the way it did?
Tailek: Instead of going out with a bang, the CJ Zaki went out with a whimper.
History needs review, except Bukit Kepong
Tell The Truth: So Higher Education Minister Khaled Nordin is agreeable to rewrite our history but why only in selective areas?
Should not the whole truth be revealed? Why should the Bukit Kepong incident not be investigated? Because it is an Umno version of our fight for independence?
So Mat Indera is not a freedom fighter - then pray tell why the Johor government acknowledged him as one? Oh, perhaps they forgot to ask the Umno president? Selectively revising history shows your insincerity.
Mamakputra's Stooge: If Western accounts of history is capable of a Western slant, Umno's account of history is also capable of a Umno slant.
Wira: Umno will not tell the truth because all the time they have been perpetuating the lie about Bukit Kepong being attacked by the cruel, slit-eyed Chinese communists who were allegedly unseating Malay political power in this country.
If they tell the truth as what PAS is telling, then they will expose themselves as liars.
Father And Son: Son: Dad, do we have a history? Father: Yes, son. Our history is at present not written yet.
Mais denies plot against Khalid, points to others
Penanglang: Mais chairperson Mohamad Abzib Mohd Isa pointed out that it is Mais' responsibility to hold such meetings to clarify issues so that they are accurately relayed to the public. Are we all not members of the public?
Why didn't Mais brief all parties? Why do this under the cover of darkness? We already know what type of people skulk in the shadows - dishonourable men.
And why only these specific NGOs? Why not all Muslim NGOs? Because Adzib is a miserable liar. As long as he represents Selangor Muslims, he makes all Selangor Muslims complicit in his lies.
Ferdtan: Now the plot is becoming much clearer - the meeting was chaired by none other than Selangor exco Hasan Ali.
Mais chairman Mohamad Abzib has 'let the cat out of the bag' when he said: "On the contrary, what is heard is that those around the MB are trying to topple him."
Who is that person? Hasan Ali? Hasan Ali must be called up by the PAS, as well as MB Khalid Ibrahim, to explain why he was involved with parties which are always on warpath with the Selangor government.
PAS, if you still want to get our support - get rid of Hasan Ali, who has time and again sabotage the Selangor government. Is he that powerful that no action can be taken against him? But didn't he lose the recent party polls?
Anti_Traitor: "Mais does not deny that there were government staff present at the meeting, but they attended in their capacities as representatives of their respective NGOs."
Can a 'government' staff represents a 'non-government' organisation?
Daniel: If Mais' aim was to "clarify issues so that they are accurately relayed to the public" why only have the Muslim NGOs attend and not open to the public?
Could we check the government leave record to verify whether certain "government staff" were there on their working hours or really "attended in their capacities as representatives of their respective NGOs"?
Interested Bystander: Abzib said, "Certain quarters or political parties have made religious institutions a platform to spread their political agenda, which could tarnish the credibility of the institutions including the sanctity of places of worship."
That says it all, nothing more need be said about Mais.
