KUALA LUMPUR: Opposition Leader Datin Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail filed an emergency motion of no confidence against Prime Minister at the office of the Dewan Rakyat Speaker at about 3.45pm Thursday.

After filing the motion, she said there would be no voting involved in the process, as Pakatan Rakyat was not seeking a no-confidence vote.

"We are not hoping for a change in the government but to have our voices heard,'' she said at Parliament lobby.

Asked why she was only doing it now, Dr Wan Azizah said because it was because the situation inthe country has worsened.

"This motion is simply to seek a change within the existing situation,'' she said.

Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia said he needed time to look into the application of the emergency motion and would decide on the matter on Monday.

He said this after receiving Opposition Leader Datin Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail's application to file for an emergency motion to cite no confidence against the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.

Approximately on 10 July 2008, Dr Wan Azizah Ismail (MP for Permatang Pauh ) filed a motion of no confidence against the Prime Minister and his Cabinet. Is there anything wrong? What’s wrong with filing a motion of no confidence against the Prime Minister and his Cabinet. I cannot state that I know all the laws of Parliament, but preventing a Member of Parliament (MP) from filing a motion of no confidence may be unwise. Even if the motion is rejected, it is the right of the MP to file the motion.

It becomes a problem if the MP is prevented from filing a motion. If the MP is in any way prevented from filing a motion, then it sends a message that the same MP is unwelcome into the Parliament in Kuala Lumpur. If the MP is unwelcome in the Kuala Lumpur Parliament, then the rejected MP’s may have to set up a separate Parliament for themselves in another location inside Malaysia. Watch out. You see, preventing the MP’s from filing a motion is even worse still. Please do file a motion of no confidence in the Kuala Lumpur Parliament if you want to. Even if it does not succeed, at least you tried. Good luck.
