The current state of law enforcement in this nation is consistent of past times in history when corrupt hegemonies were about to collapse. This hour when it is darkest before the storm is when the desperate incumbents (who have been in power too long) will subvert the police and military forces of a nation to their nefarious intent of remaining in power against populist sentiments and demands.
Hence it is not surprising that Umno and BN will simply ape past evil-doers like Idi Amin and even the world's historical favourite, Hitler, in their current moment of weakness and crisis. They have no original ideas or thoughts beyond their desperate bids to cling to the bastions of power and control.
Honestly elected governments and sincere public servants know when to bow down and go when they are no longer wanted, when their ideologies are rejected by the masses and when conscience tells them to go.
Obviously, with the house falling down around them, Umno and BN will be busy propping up the columns to prevent this rot and desperately cling to power.
Firstly, self-interest has become the primary driver for the individuals and the culture in those component parties. So when that happens, who cares what the world thinks? ‘I’ predominates and ‘I’ must stay at the top of the game so ‘I’ can continue to reap unnatural and unfair benefits - to hell with the rest of you, inconsequential small people who matter not to ‘Me’.
Secondly, our state and national politicians do not enter politics to regard themselves as public ‘servants’ or deliver on public service. It is all a matter of personal gain, prestige, patronage and jumping on the gravy train.
It matters not whether we are Malays, Indians, Chinese or whatever, we each have our "Ahmad Ismails" for race politics in any form. We are Malaysians collectively and these bottom feeders are using the concept of divide-and-conquer for decades to bleed us dry and hurt us.
Thirdly, when true and sincere politicians (men and women who serve and who are people of conscience) feel they have lost their way or lost the support of the populace, they gracefully step down.
In Europe, we see that civil brand of honest government who graciously leave the stage when the electorate rejects them. Recently, the Icelandic PM resigned and dissolved government. It will never happen in Malaysia - as these people have too much to lose.
Even in Thailand, our dear neighbour, at worst the PM is asked to leave by an enlightened monarchy which represents the people's conscience in its highest evolved state (please Agung, ask Umno and BN to call for snap elections and see how badly they'll get their behinds kicked out of office if there are clean polls).
Even in Korea and Japan where there is a fiery brand of entrenched politics, there is still honour in the culture to ensure that unwanted PMs are forced by a sense of honour to go when not wanted (at least in those countries, the police and army have remained neutral of politics, we are not so lucky as from their behaviour to date, these institutions will be easy instruments of manipulation in Malaysia).
In Malaysia, there is no conscience, no honour, no sense of elected mandate, no view of political service to the people. Hence, the primary driving force is akin to Idi Amin's or Marcos' desperate bid to remain in power and continue to milk the people dry.
Hence, we have our own Pol Pot but it is not one person. Instead ours is a collective breed from different races and religions with one common unifying force of greed to bind them together.
These people who will use all possible means to remain in power. They will subvert and pervert the very institutions which are supposed to protect the people against such evil-doings.
So we shall increasingly see crime rise without abate (after all, petty criminals help keep the population in fear of their lives which is a useful distraction to a corrupt government for when we fear we are not so likely to protest).
We shall see innocents subjugated and down-trodden to prop up the evil corridors of powers. We shall see bigots of all shapes and sizes swagger and turn to state weapons to cow down those who do not lick their feet.
Malaysia at this present stage of political evolution has the right ingredients for its nascent police state to bloom into full-fledged ‘killer squads’ ala Idi Amin or the ‘SS of the Third Reich’ reminiscent of Hitler.
I pray to whatever God you wish to invoke that we do not reach the pinnacle of this potential Sodom and Gomorrah.
