ETALING JAYA: Keshvinder Singh's former political secretary is not surprised by the Malim Nawar state assemblyman's decision to quit DAP and declare himself a Barisan Nasional-friendly independent.
“This is because he was never really interested in helping the voters,” claimed Tam Kok Khuen, who resigned after 11 months because he “could not stand” Keshvinder.
Tam was also not convinced by the “lack of allocations” reason given by his former boss regarding his decision to leave DAP, and termed this as a mere excuse.
"I just felt that he never had the heart in doing his job. If someone is sincere about working for the people, he should work hard to get more money through donation drives and so on.
"Often, from what I saw, he would merely do a show for the papers but after that, there was no real follow up. So actually if he is there or not, it does not make a difference," he said.
'He never paid me'
Tam, who joined Keshvinder after helping the lawyer-turned-politician in his 2008 election campaign, alleged that his former employer never once paid him the RM1,000 monthly allowance he was promised.
"Until now, he has never given me anything. Only sometimes he gave RM50 or RM100 for petrol. After the general election, there were some buffet-like celebrations to thank the voters, even those expenditures, about RM600, was never paid.
"He always says that he does not have money," added the 32-year-old IT consultant.
Meanwhile, DAP's Keranji state assemblyman Chen Fook Chye said he felt responsible as he was the one who brought Keshvinder into the party in 2004 and strongly suggested him as a candidate.
"The residents told me they'll vote for him because they believe in me. Nobody knew him at the time. I think that I should be responsible for this," said Chen, who added that a DAP working committee will be set up in Malim Nawar soon.
Chen, who has tried in vain to look for Keshvinder, now believes that he will not see his protege again.
"Even if I do see him, him there won't be much to talk about," he said.
Keshvinder meanwhile could not be contacted. It is believed that he is away from the country enjoying the corrupted money in which he sold himself and his mother.
