Seven PKR Youth arrested at KL Sentral

KUALA LUMPUR: Seven PKR Youth members were arrested at KL Sentral today when they attempted to hand over a memorandum to Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak who was attending a function.

The group, wearing yellow T-shirts and shouting “reformasi” and “hidup rakyat”, was swiftly detained when they attempted to approach Najib to hand over the memo calling for electoral reforms and the release of six detained Parti Socialis Malaysia (PSM) members.

The seven – Rozan Mat Azen Mat Rasip, Zaki Yamani, Zulkifar Ali Ariffin, Chegu’Sekar, Sacchinathan, Fareez Kamal Intidzam and Mannivannan Gowindasamy – are now at the Jalan Travers police station, waiting to have their statements recorded.

According to Rozan, the personal aide to Batu MP Tian Chua Chang, about 40 policemen surrounded them before they were arrested.

“The police were violent when they arrested us,” Roslan said, adding that four civilains were also detained.

“Zaki even lost his shoe when they pounced on him. We don’t what we’ll be charged with. We will lodge a police report over the physical assault,” said Rozan.

Najib was at the KL Sentral to launch “the wave the Jalur Gemilang Ramahan 2011” event.
