Questions that require answers from Najib

The good life is also what many Malaysians way back on the historic date of August 31, 1957 expected that the future will be. All Malaysians from all walks of life regardless of race or religion had hoped for a better tomorrow after the end of British colonial rule.

But it was not to be for many of its citizens. The race riots of May 13, 1969 proved to be a major blip in Malaysian history and there were hopes that it would be rectified by the National Economic Policy (NEP). Indeed the NEP is a very good plan to lift the Malays out of the poverty trap but for its implementation and abuse by the elite few.

Fast forward to the present day. Where are we now and where are we heading, Mr Prime Minister? Certainly the harsh realities of the present day have only served to heighten the fact that the dreams of the rakyat back in 1957 were nothing but false hopes.

The reality thus far is totally different from what many have dreamed, hoped for and envisaged. Hopes have been dashed and beautiful dreams are now living nightmares for the poor, the downtrodden and the oppressed.

How did we come to this? The answer is simple and can be summed up in one word: Umno. They have hijacked the Malaysian dream and the Umnoputeras have squandered the wealth of the nation besides misappropriating and mismanaging it.

Where are the hallmarks of good governance? None. Why? The few reasons that come to mind are sufficient to illustratrate my point: PKFZ, Bakun Dam, Independent Power Producers (IPPs) also known as the Electricity Deal, PLUS Highways, the privatisation of IWK (Indah Water Konsortium), etc, the list is endless.

The mismanagement and wasteful ways of the government have continued unabated. The rental, water, electricity and renovation charges for the Prime Minister’s residence in Putrajaya amounting to atrocious millions of ringgit is a strong case in point plus the overbloated civil service of 45 thousand staff members.

There is just too much cronyism and corruption going on due to greed by the powers-that-be who still want to remain in power so that they can continue to plunder the wealth of the nation’s coffers and live a life beyond their wildest fantasies.

Soon there would be nothing left. In fact that is what is happening now and that is the reason why the Federal Government is now doing major extraction works into the pockets of the rakyat through the reduction of subsidies and the soon-to-be implemented GST (Goods and Services Tax).

For too long has Umno been the bulwark of the Federal Government. MCA and MIC who are also BN component partners are nothing but toothless representations of their respective race.

Besides practicing cronyism and corruption, the Umno leaders who are also government ministers also claim that they are defenders of Islam. But how can they claim to defend Islam when what they are practicing is not in accordance with the teachings of the Al-Quran?

Was it not said in the Holy Quran that those who are corrupt will occupy the regions of hell as stated in Surah Al-Baqarah verse 188?

When will this dismal situation end? The answer is when there are enough of the rakyat who will wake up to the truth of the situation.

Only then can the poor and the downtrodden achieve financial freedom for a better tomorrow. But till then, we have only hope to cling to.

I have always said that you cannot give what you don’t have and the same goes for good governance. If in the first place you don’t adhere to the principles of good governance, how can you practice it?

After 54 years of Merdeka, the most poignant question for PM Najib Tun Razak is this: Where are you leading the nation?

We do not want empty rhetoric nor more acronyms nor mere mouthing of gigantic sum of investment and economic figures. We want people first and performance now. Is that not what you yourself have proclaimed in your 1Malaysia slogan?
