Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim has attributed the unsavoury mob culture to the emergence of the ‘pandikutti’ attitude.
GEORGE TOWN: Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim attributed the unsavoury mob culture among Umno and Perkasa members in their attempt to humiliate the Pakatan Rakyat leaders to the emergence of a “pandikutti” (piglet) attitude.
He accused the mob of being uncultured by being rowdy and rude in showing its objections to Pakatan’s policies.
He said these detractors should adopt a more civilised approach, not unruly behaviour, to resolve differences with Pakatan.
Anwar took to task the mob for humiliating Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng by presenting a cake in the shape of human waste.
The mob from Umno and Perkasa also caused a ruckus at last month’s anti-Lynas protest, in which two newsmen were roughed up and Lim was shown a shoe.
“Is this Malay and Islamic culture? It’s a pandikutti attitude,” the PKR chief told some 150 people amid laughter at a gathering in Penang “Little India” here today.
Among those present were PKR’s vice-president N Surendran, Penang Deputy Chief Minister I Mansor Othman, assemblymen S Raveentharan (Batu Uban) and RSN Rayer (Seri Delima), and Kedah executive councillor S Manikumar.
Anwar also expressed confidence that the coalition would retain Penang in style in the next general election with more seats.
Pakatan now holds 29 seats against BN’s 11 in the State Legislative Assembly.
He said Lim’s government had shown to the people the way of good governance and financial management.
He noted that the DAP-helmed government has changed the previous constant deficit budgets under the BN administration to surplus budgets within four years of its rule.
“Pakatan will capture more seats this time than in 2008,” he said.
‘Vote for change’
Anwar said Wanita Umno chief Shahrizat Abdul Jalil recently boasted that BN would wrest Penang from Pakatan’s grasp.
“Shahrizat can only capture cows in Penang. If she can’t get cows, she perhaps can get condos… there are many condos in Penang,” said Anwar in reference to the National Feedlot Corporation (NFC) scandal.
Anwar also called on all Malaysians to vote for change in the next polls.
He said that a political change was badly needed to free the country from corruption, poverty, racism, discrimination and exploitation.
He added that corruption and wastage were the main causes behind the escalating cost of living vis-à-vis rising prices of goods in spite of the country earning over RM90 billion in petroleum export revenue.
If Pakatan were to take capture Putrajaya, he said the petrol price would go down the very next day and the toll charges for the North-South Expressway would be abolished.
“This is a defining moment in Malaysian history. The people’s power should change the nation’s political destiny,” he said.
